The contact owns a 2011 Infiniti G37. The contact stated while parked, a water leak coming from the driver’s side floor was discovered. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the cause of the water leak was unknown; however, the independent mechanic also informed the contact that when the carpet on the driver’s side floor was removed there was a towel underneath. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

DASHBOARD MATERIAL APPEARS AS IF IT IS MELTING, OOZING OUT VERY STICKY UNKNOWN SUBSTANCE (TOXIC?) THAT CREATES VERY SHINY SURFACE. FOR A CAR OF ITS AGE, STILL HAS THAT NEW SMELL AS IF FROM OUT GASSING. THE SHINY SURFACE REFLECTS LIGHT TO THE WINDSHIELD OBSCURING A CLEAR VIEW THROUGH IT, BLOCKING ABILITY TO SEE OBJECTS, ESPECIALLY UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS OF LIGHT SOURCE AND BACKGROUND. THERE HAVE BEEN SIMILAR COMPLAINTS BY MANY. THERE IS SETTLED CLASS ACTION SUIT FOR NISSAN'S ALTIMA MODEL, APPLICABLE ONLY IN FLORIDA. BUT THE PROBLEM IS NOT UNIQUE TO THIS MODEL OR LOCATION. IT IS HOT AND HUMID ALSO HERE IN THE DALLAS AREA. APPEARS NOT JUST RESULT OF SENSITIVITY TO UV, BUT HEAT AND HUMIDITY. THIS VEHICLE SPENDS MOST ALL ITS TIME IN A GARAGE ENVIRONMENT (NO HVAC) WITH FEW MILES. OTHERS HAVE ALSO MADE THIS POINT. THE STAGE IT IS IN NOW IS THAT IT...

THIS IS A HARDTOP CONVERTIBLE CAR WHOSE ROOF FOLDS INTO THE TRUNK SPACE WHEN THE TOP IS DOWN. UNLIKE A PREVIOUS HARDTOP CONVERTIBLE I OWNED (VOLKSWAGEN EOS), THE ROOF ON THE INFINITI GOES DOWN EVEN WHEN THERE IS AN OBSTRUCTION IN THE TRUNK SPACE (SUCH AS A BOOK). [THE ROOF OF THE EOS WOULD NOT GO DOWN UNTIL THE OBSTRUCTION WAS REMOVED]. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE WITH THE INFINITI, CAUSING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OF DAMAGE TO MY CAR. MY CONCERN IS THAT IF A CHILD WERE TO CLIMB INTO THE TRUNK (GOD FORBID) AND THE TOP WERE TO BE ENGAGED, THERE WOULD BE NOTHING TO STOP THE ROOF FROM CRUSHING THE CHILD. THIS SEEMS LIKE A SERIOUS SAFETY SHORTCOMING. I CALLED INFINITI MOTORS AND EXPRESSED MY CONCERN; THEY CREATED A FILE AND BASICALLY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. *TR
