Stopped at a light and the auto start/stop system engaged and the cars engine turned off. Once the light turned green and took my foot off of the brake the engine did not automatically start. It would not start for about 30 seconds after trying to start it multiple time. The car was completely dead. Luckily the driver approaching me from behind was stopped without hitting me. This was very disturbing and dangerous.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle stalled and failed to restart. While at a stop light, the vehicle shut down. The check engine and emissions warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, the family and other children had to exit the vehicle when the vehicle stalled at 10: 30 PM on the busy highway. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where an unknown diagnosis was provided. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was unknown. Parts distribution disconnect.
Auto Start/Stop. Car stopped and would not re-start while in an intersection. Restarted manually after a few minutes.
A rod bearing in the engine failed and broke through the side of the engine block damaging the catalytic converter and causing oil to spray every where and the engine to seize and catch fire.
Several times the engine automatically shut down when I stopped in traffic, but then failed to re-start. Takes several minutes of messing with it before it will allow me to restart it. Of course there was angry traffic behind me waiting... *There is already an ongoing NHSTA investigation into this issue. NHTSA Action Number: PE22005
When vehicle comes to stop, auto stop/start feature turns off the vehicle when brake is pressed. When brake is released the engine does not start, the car goes into park or neutral and will not move until the vehicle is shut-off and restarted after a period of time. Time varies. Dealership is blaming after-market battery, stating vehicle auto idle stop/start feature requires Honda OEM battery with specific voltage. Incident occurred in January 2024, reported at 50K mile service and again in June 2024. With both incidents there were no warning lamps, messages that appeared. Honda stated they could not recreate the issue then worked with Master techs that stated it was a battery issue. Blaming it on our specific vehicle and did not inform us of investigation of thousands of claims with this specific issue. There has been an issue with multiple occurrences when auto stop/start is engaged when stopped...
With the lane departure warning- it alerts when the lane turning and when my blinker is on to change lanes. It does not alert when I change lanes without my blinker Lane keeping assistance does not do anything Engine idle shut off- when I am at a stop light and the engine turns off while idle, when I take my foot off the break the engine completely cuts off and the screen prompts me to shift into park. I the. Have to completely turn off my car and turn it back on. Sometimes it takes 30 seconds sometimes it take a minute or two to turn back on. This has happened at stop lights as well as on the freeway during stop and go traffic
Auto start stop feature did not restart engine after I stopped in traffic ahead of me on [XXX] in New Hyde Park. This has happened twice to me and a few times to my wife although she did not report them through this site. All this is after I had reported earlier the same incidents and Honda diagnosed it to the battery needing replacement after 2 years. There is a problem with this feature and NHTSA SHOULD ACT. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Auto start stop did not restart engine after stopping at red light.
The fuel Pump has been stalling and acting out since 2022 and received Recall "NHTSA Number: 23V-858 on February 2024. We call Tampa Honda at 813-935-8585 to schedule a recall repair. Tampa Honda informed us that they don't have parts to replace the Fuel Pump. We then, 60 days after February 2024, received a second recall letter, "NHTSA Recall Number: 23V-858 today 18 MAY 2024 and called Tampa Honda for the second time to schedule a recall repair of the Fuel Pump. For the second time, Tampa Honda customer service told us that they don't have parts for the replacement. We informed them that the recall issue ( Stalling and Engine hesitation while driving )with our Honda Pilot 2019 is persistent and that we are concerned about the vehicle's safety.
1ST OCCURENCE: 45000 miles on vehicle. I was exiting a busy ramp from [XXX] to Fort Oglethorpe, Ga and the Idle stop caused the engine to stall and not re-engage upon lifting the break. I was almost hit from the rear. The vehicle had power but would not restart. I had to wait for it to shut itself down and get it to restart. 2ND OCCURENCE: 62000 miles on vehicle. Almost a year and a half from the first occurrence-I was on a very busy [XXX] and came to stop at a red light. AGAIN, the idle stop caused the engine to stall and not restart. The light turned green, and I immediately turned my flashers on. I had a child in the backseat. Cars still began honking and going around us, leaving us to potentially get smashed from behind on a road that many people travel at 55mph plus!...
Auto idle doesn't always restart. Latest incident, I was stopped at a busy intersection. It failed to restart when I lifted my foot. Caused my car to become inoperable, pretty much every light came on, radio stopped. Had to put it in park, turn off the car, and restart it. There were cars coming close to hitting me.
Auto start stalled at highway stop light , then parked and shut off, went to leave would not start , emergency Alarm going off will not start , Emission light , Lane depart light , transmission light , battery dead , I’ve been dealing with problems with the Honda pilot since I bought brand new 2019 Honda pilot elite , auto pilot stop and go wouldn’t kick back on and that was 40,000 take in charge me 10,000
Auto start-stop feature is malfunctioning. It is terrifying. I have pulled up to high traffic, busy intersections and my car will idle into stop at the light. When the light turns green and I proceed to push on the gas, the engine does now restart. I have been in extremely dangerous situations where I am stuck in the middle of very busy intersections with my young children in the car with me, and my car will not move. After about 10 minutes of attempting to restart, it will eventually turn back on and I can drive again. I cannot begin to tell you how terrified I have been a couple of the times this has happened, given the conditions of the traffic. I have tried to ask Honda about this several times and they act like they have no idea as to what I am referring to. They tell me...
While stopped at a busy intersection the vehicle stalled and would not restart. Everything went blank. We believe it was the idle stop start feature malfunctioning. Lost all vehicle power including hazard lamps, speedometer, and gauges. Vehicle was previously in for recall on farka cables and idle stop start update. Honda dealer replaced battery 2 Months prior
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Pilot. The contact stated after starting the vehicle, there was a chirping noise coming from the timing belt. No warning lights was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times. The first time, the dealer stated it was normal, the second time, the dealer replaced the serpentine belt, the last time, the dealer acknowledged the noise but stated they did not have a solution to fix the issue. The contact stated the vehicle was taken to another dealer who stated it was a known issue called the timing belt chirp. They also stated when replacing the timing belt, they install a part to prevent the noise as well as prevent wear and tear. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced Hondas Service Bulletin 16-054, which applied to the year make and model of the contact's vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware...
My vehicle is equipped with a feature that turns it off at brakes stops and restarts when the gas is pushed (example - at a stop sign). Honda did a recall and replaced a part but this feature on my vehicle still stalls and doesn’t start instantaneously with the gas, causing a noticeable delay when I’m trying to go from a stoplight. Hondas remedy has been a button to turn this off - bit it must be turned off every single time the car is started and I’m afraid for my teenagers to take my 2019 Pilot because they may not remember the to do this. Honda at one point did turn this feature off on my vehicle but when I got a new battery put in, the computer reset and it is now active again. They informed me they now do not have the ability to turn off this...
The auto start stop feature in my car appears very weak. I believe the dealer replaced the battery once early on and then I have had to replace the battery at my own expense again. Now, after a new battery, it is still appearing weak. I believe this feature is draining the batteries and causing a safety issue as my car seems to be delayed or struggles when trying to start back up. The auto start stop also was not working properly when I purchased the vehicle and was “fixed” right after I purchased the car.
In October 23, 2023, The Honda Pilot Touring 2019 activated the alarm system alone. When I attempted to stop the alarm the unit did not stop and start blinking. It displayed the codes keyless start system problems and auto engine idle system problem. The unit drained the battery. It was replaced by a new one and it showed the problem again in October 24, 2023. The unit turned ON alone the alarm, control panel motor fans and I was unable to turned Off the unit. The only way to turned Off the unit was disconnecting from batery. On October 24, 2023, the car was sent to the Honda dealer and the diagnostic was problem with the control module part 38320TG7A91. As of today I still waiting for repair due to part backorder. Neither the part is available in Honda part supplier in US. Why? It has been a part recall...
Experiencing what I believe to be a low idle misfire around the 1200 to 2000 rpm’s. I don’t know whether this will lead to an engine failure at a crucial time in traffic. I have 50k miles and this has been reoccurring since 35k miles. Blogs has suggested that this is a common problem with this model.
Start/Stop malfunctioning. If activated engine stops and have to physically restart. This is dangerous because can happen in redlight, stop sign, or random. Rear suspension is rough, bumpy and unstable. Yesterday almost lost control going over rough spot in the freeway. Complained numerous times to dealer and opened case with Honda of America. They simply ignore the issue. Many people having the same problem.
My vehicle has completely shut-off numerous times after stopping at a stop light or stop sign while my idle stop option is on. I biught a new battery, which did not resolve the issue.
My 2019 Honda Pilot is repeatedly having problems, when the vehicle is started and running, first thing in the morning. There is hard jerking when the vehicle is shifting on low speed (ex: from first to second to third gear). This happens repeatedly in the morning start, then doesn't occur again on that day. It reoccurs again, the next day. Have taken the vehicle to the Dealer Service, they notice the issue but are unable to find the root cause. There is no Error Code generated. I find the same issue is being faced many other Honda Pilot owners, refer the link [XXX] . There was an earlier TSB [XXX] and [XXX], but that is only applicable up to 2017 models. Need a resolution from Honda, as this is not only a nagging unresolved problem, but also a potential safety hazard. Details on this issue for the vehicle, can be...
Auto Idle function stopped the engine while waiting to make a left hand turn on a busy street. When trying to make the left hand turn the engine was unable to restart resulting in engine warning lights as well as battery warning lights and a complete shutdown of the car and all systems. Warning lights only appeared when I took my foot off the break and pushed the gas pedal to reengage the engine and move. This left the vehicles lifeless and stranded in the middle of the street for a few minutes before I was able to restart the car after a few failed attempts to do so. This left me stranded in the middle of a busy multi lane street in San Diego with cars having to go around me back into traffic to get by. I have had other instances of stopping at lights where the auto...
When my car is at a stop, the engine idles and will not restart. Sometimes, charging the battery will upstart the engine, while sometimes it will not start at all. We've had the battery checked several times, and the battery checks out fine. The car has an electric shift, and I can't place it into neutral to push the car tot he side. So, we wait in the midst of a heavily trafficked intersection until a tow truck comes. This has happened several times in heavy traffic and once in our driveway. After yesterday's incident, I asked my friend who has the same car to see if she has similar issues. She said YES! After bringing the car to the dealer numerous times, she turns off the idle engine everytime she drives, and she hasn't had the issue. I also researched on Google, and this seems to be a recurring...
My 2019 Honda Pilot Touring (7 passenger) has a defect with the auto stop-start system that is a major (and scary!) safety concern. On a handful of occasions over the past couple of years, when stopped at a traffic light (and the auto stop-start feature engages) the engine will fair to restart. My wife has complained that this happened to her several times, and finally this week I was in the car to witness it for myself. The car went from drive to neutral ON ITS OWN, instruments began flashing, the "i" indicator came on, and we couldn't get the car back into drive. We had to turn the car all the way off and back on in order to get it back into drive. I took a picture of the dash and will upload it here. I've read online that this might be caused by a cold battery; however,...
I purchased the car 6 days ago. Now the the engine light is on.
Pulled to stop. Engine Auto-Stop shut down the engine. When I released the brake pedal the car did not restart. The display stated that I needed to shift the car out of drive before starting. I put the car in park, pressed the Car On/Off button to restart the car, and it restarted without issue. Shifted to Drive and car moved without issue. This has happened 2 times.
Brought vehicle to stop on a hill at a traffic light intersection. Auto Start/Stop activated, shutting engine off. When releasing the brake the vehicle did not restart. Placed foot on the accelerator, there was no response. The vehicle then started to drift backward down the hill toward other vehicles stopped at light. Slammed on the brakes. Had to restart the car manually with the push button starter switch. Vehicle was able to start and move under its own power.
Our 2019 Pilot has experienced intermittent stalling at lights since 2019 and the incidents have occurred more frequently in the past few months (multiple times per week). It has been taken exclusively to the dealer since purchased and for years, they said they were unable to duplicate it. Last service was 08/2023 and Sheehy Honda of Alexandria, VA stated that they duplicated it and fixed it (by resetting codes). Six days later, the stalling began again. I believe it's related to the Auto Idle Stop function. Yes, it's available for inspection. This puts us and others at risk when the car suddenly stalls and stops at a busy intersection with people lined up behind us, not expecting to have to brake. It requires putting vehicle in park, turning it off and restarting engine. It has not been inspected by anyone except the Honda dealer. Warning lights come on when this...
Auto-stop failed to restart the engine when stepping off the brake pedal after it had engaged while stopping for a traffic light. Although the car never had an issue with auto-start, the auto-start recall was applied at the same time as the hood latch recall. Since the auto-start fix was applied, the car has had several instances where it seemed at first like it might not start, but eventually did. This failure happened while on a road trip with my family and we were hundreds of miles from home. Sitting in a turning lane off a highway with when your engine doesn’t restart is very scary, especially as you’re trying to figure out the state of your car—while surrounding drivers are reacting to the disabled car in front of them—in order to figure out how to try restarting it. Dealing with a push button start, a push button transmission, all...
came to stop sign at busy intersection and engine shutoff as part of the auto engine stop. The issue is when I let off the brake the engine did not restart and put the car in neutral. had to cut off and restart.
When the vehicle comes to a stop it shuts off and will not restart. We have had it to the dealership for more than 7 times for the same time. They have sold us 3 new batteries and the car is only 4 years old. It is not the battery. It is a safety concern because of the damage of being rammed or being attacked in an unsafe area.
Auto start-stop failure. After the auto start-stop engages (turns off engine at intersection), sometimes the vehicle does not restart. I have to press the starter on the dashboard to restart and put the transmission back in gear. Other times, when it does restart like it is supposed to, it flashes a "collision alert warning" on the dashboard when it restarts. These incidents started about three months ago and are now happening much more frequently.
The car did not auto restart when it shut off at a stop. I had to put the car into park and press the engine start button again. Supposedly there had been a software update done a few thousand miles ago but the car has shut off and not restarted 3x in the last 2 weeks so issue isn't fixed
Drove for about 12 minutes, parked, then returned less than 5 minutes to find that the car has caught on fire! The fire started to appear in the space between the hood and windshield, then burned aggressively within a few minutes.
While waiting at a busy intersection, waiting to turn left, the idle stop malfunctioned and the engine would not restart. I was left in the middle of a busy intersection with my son in the car. After 20 minutes I finally disconnected and reconnected the battery in order to get the car out of the intersection. I have had this problem for the past 4 years and have been given different possible solutions over the years. They've told me it was a software problem, then they told me I should stop connecting my phone to the car, then I was told I needed a new battery. Obviously none of those "fixes" have worked. I have an appointment later this week to address this latest incident. There were no warning messages before the failure but now there is a "remote starter" warning, the heat and A/C no longer turn on and...
Emissions System Problem
In multiple incidents, our 2019 Honda Pilot stalled and would not restart. In two such incidents, the vehicle stalled and all systems became inoperable (including the hazard lights) at busy intersections, endangering the lives of my wife and two small children. The vehicle has been to the dealership where it was originally purchased (brand new) without resolution. There were no warning or indicator lights prior to the incidents. Honda has indicated that there may be an issue with the auto-idle system on certain vehicles (which this may be related to), but has not issued a recall despite this incredibly dangerous and life-threatening issue.
Auto stop/start in vehicle activated at red light, vehicle engine turned off and would not restart. Vehicle kept saying shift to Park to turn on engine, vehicle was in park. Waited a few minutes at the intersection, engine finally turned over and car started. An issue had occurred multiple times before stopping at a red light, but usually it just turns off my radio or digital dash board when auto start/stop is activated, and the radio comes back on if you let off the brake and the feature is disengaged.
This 2019 Honda Pilot Elite has an Engine Auto Shut Off that engages when stopped at traffic lights, stopped traffic, etc. It can be turned off manually each time after starting the car ignition but when it is not - it will engage in these stopped positions. Recently, the Auto Shut Off has been engaging and the vehicle will completely shut off and go into Neutral. This has happened to us at stop lights with some frequency but has recently happened two times in stopped traffic on Interstate 95. We cannot get the vehicle to start back up without completely shutting off the ignition and going through the restart sequence. It is not an immediate fix and we are in a compromised and unsafe position on a highway without being able to start the car
On friday March 3, 2023 driving home from work, stop at a light and the car does not turn back on. It took at least 10 minutes to finally turn on for me to at least get home. I know that this is probably once again a battery issue. On April 1st of 2022 we replaced the battery for the 3rd time. The first time it was replaced the car was still under warranty. I usually turn off the auto start because I have had this problem at least 8 times prior to this last problem. This is a dangerous problem that this keeps happening. I shouldn't have to replace a battery every year like this. There should be a way of seeing if the battery has low voltage but I have not seen anything in the car regarding voltage. There should be a recall, Honda says that no other...
Vehicle shows Emission System Fail and problem with AWD system after 36000 miles. I am not sure how safe it is to drive this vehicle. Problem started same day when I went to dealer to check if there is any issues with my car. Vehicle is right now at dealer and they said they are going to charge me for finding out issue. Message in dashboard came out when honda dealer’s technician was driving.
Twice now when waiting at a light the auto idle turns the engine off. When the light has turned green, I go to step on the gas and the car shuts completely off. I need to put it in park, step on the break and restart my car. 5-10 second delay in going at the green light. The last time this happened it was at night and a semi didn’t realize I was stopped and had to run off the road to avoid hitting me. This is extremely dangerous and many are reporting it for years.
There are 2 issues. First, the engine fails to restart when auto start/stop is engaged. This has happened at traffic lights/stop signs in traffic at least 15 times in the past 2 months. However, the issue randomly happened prior to that timeframe. The engine never restarts right away. This puts the passengers in the vehicle at risk of being rear-ended and/or stranded on the roadway. When the dealer was asked about this a few months ago, they dismissed it and told me they would charge $189 to look at it. Sometimes when the engine won't restart, the display will very quickly (for a second or two) flash "Collision Mitigation System Problem". The second issue happened yesterday. I tried to start the car and it wouldn't start. After about 10 minutes, I got out of the car and used remote start. It started. The vehicle is available for inspection, if requested.
The problem started about a year ago and has happened a number of times. When stopping with the auto idle stop enabled the engine would sputter and nearly stall. This happens more frequently, but recently the engine will not restart and you have to manually shut off the car and then restart the car which can take upwards of 30 seconds to a minute. This tends to happen in dangerous situations like stop and go traffic, exit and on ramps during rush hour with lots of traffic. I took to the dealership thinking it was a battery issue but the battery tested fine. This seems to happen more frequently now.
When driving and coming to a stop the idle - stop engages but when the brake is released the engine does not restart. The vehicle dies and has to be completely shut off and restarted. The vehicle start button has to be pressed 2 or 3 times before it finally restarts. This has occurred multiple times and has happened in a high traffic area. The vehicle takes 3-5 minutes before it can be fully restarted.
When stopped at a light, the auto engine idle stop/start did not re-engage after taking my foot off the brake. It took the car a few seconds to turn back on and be able to accelerate. This could happen in the middle of an intersection and cause accidents. This happened a second time today and the LKAS system was alerting that maintenance is needed.
Our Honda auto engine idle stop system routinely malfunctions. On numerous occasions, our car has completely turned off (radio and other power features go off as well) when it was in idle-stop mode and tried to start again. This has happened on major intersections when we come to a red light more than 10X with my family in the car. It causes delays in getting the car to start again. We have to put the car back in park, press the brake, and push the start button. We have to repeat these steps numerous times before the car will start again. Extremely dangerous. While not as dangerous, it does occur at stops signs. We've taken the care to the dealership multiple times. We are told they are aware of the issue but there is nothing they can do. The only solution is to disable the auto-idle button each time we...
