THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO EARNHARDT FORD LOCATED AT 7300 W ORCHID LN, CHANDLER, AZ 85226, AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE MILEAGE LIMITATION HAD BEEN EXCEEDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,140.
I OWN A 2012 FORD EXPLORER. RECENTLY I RECEIVED A WARNING ON THE DASHBOARD INDICATING THAT THERE IS A "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT. " THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH MY FAMILY (LUCKY AT A LOW SPEED). I AM AWARE OF A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. IN SHORT, THE RECALL COVERS 2011-2013 EXPLORERS AND MANDATES THAT FORD REPLACE FIRST THE SOFTWARE FOR THE STEERING RACK ASSEMBLY AND IF THAT DOES NOT RECTIFY THE PROBLEM THEN THE ENTIRE STEERING RACK ASSEMBLE ITSELF. I VISITED MY LOCAL FORD DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE AND STATED THAT THE ENTIRE STEERING RACK ASSEMBLE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. MY POWER STEERING AND POWER ASSIST WENT OUT FOR A SECOND TIME AFTER BEING REPLACED UNDER A RECALL MAKING IT HARD TO STEER AND TEARING UP OTHER PARTS IN MY VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD BY A FORD DEALERSHIP THAT THE RECALL WAS ONLY GOOD TO BE REPLACED ONCE AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT A SECOND TIME. *TR
MY WIFE AND KIDS WERE DRIVING OUR 2012 FORD EXPLORER ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE DASHBOARD GAVE A NOTICE OF "SERVICE POWER STEERING" AND "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC". THE SUV INSTANTLY LOST ALL POWER STEERING AND MY WIFE HAD TO MUSCLE THE VEHICLE OFF THE HIGHWAY. AFTER TAKING SOME TIME TO LOOK INT WHAT COULD BE THE CAUSE I ENDED UP HAVING IT TAKEN TO THE GERMAIN FORD OF BEAVERCREEK. UPON DIAGNOSES THEY STATED THAT THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING GEAR HAD BECOME FAULTY. I ASKED IF THIS WAS COVERED UNDER THE 'FIELD ACTION NOTICE' OR THE RECALL THAT WERE AVAILABLE FOR THIS ISSUE THAT I HAVE SEEN ALL OVER THE INTERNET. IT WAS EXPLAINED THAT DUE TO BEING 9,900 MILES OVER THE WARRANTY OF THE FIELD ACTION NOTICE THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT, EVEN AFTER A ASKING THROUGH A PROVISIONAL REQUEST TO FORD. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS ADVISED THAT...
STARTED MY 2022 FORD EXPLORA , AND AS I STARTED TO BACK OUT OF MY PARKING SPACE I NOTICED I COULD NOT STEER WITH THE STEERING WHEEL , THE STEERING FROZE ON ME . I ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE ONCE MORE AND I FOUND MY SELF IN THE SAME SITUATION WITH MY STEERING FROZEN . I TRAVELED OVER 78 MILES WITH NO STEERING CAPABILITY.

THE CONTACT ALSO EXPERIENCED THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REVERSED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 165,000.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP ON HER. NOW IT IS STIFF AND CANNOT DRIVE IT. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME SINCE IT WAS OVER 160,000 MILES THAT THEY WILL NOT FIX THE RECALL.
THE FRONT STRUT TOWER MOUNTS ARE BAD. THIS IS ON EVERY 2011-2015 FORD EXPLORER I HAVE SEEN. IT MAKES A BAD CLUNK SOUND EVERYTIME THE WHEEL IS TURNED.

TOOK TO PAUL MILLER FORD, LEXINGTON, KY - STATED FORD SHOULD HAVE TO FIX - BUT THEY WON'T BECAUSE IT IS OVER 150,000 MILES. POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT LIGHT CAME BACK ON FEB 7, 2020 - AND STILL REMAINS ON AND UN-DRIVEABLE. FORD REFUSES TO FIX THE ISSUE, AND I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE. STEERING SYSTEM FAILURE APPEARED IN MY CAR AND I COULD NO LONGER MOVE THE STEERING AS IT GOT TOO HARD FOR NO REASON, I DON'T EVEN WANT TO IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I HAD DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY FAMILY I THINK IT IS THE DEFECT OF THE FORD FOR WHICH FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SOLVING THIS PROBLEM TO PREVENT CRASHES
ELECTRONIC STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY WAS A RECALL AND WAS REPLACED. REPLACEMENT PART HAS NOW GONE BAD ONCE AGAIN. FORD IS NOT HONORING THE WARRANTY IT PROVIDED FOR THIS PART. VEHICLE HAS NO STEERING POWER NOW. WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. UNABLE TO TURN LEFT CAUSING TO GO OFF THE ROAD. WAS ABLE TO CORRECT AND TRAVELED TO DEALER TO FIND OUT THAT THE STEERING IS GONE.
07/25- HAD RECALL ORDERED- TOE LINK ON BOTH SIDES, REAR. PERFORMED AT HARRISONBURG FORD, VA. ; 09/04 DRIVING ON ROUTE 33 IN VA, MOUNTAIN ROAD. HEARD GRINDING NOISE COMING DOWN MOUNTAIN, NOISE STEADILY INCREASED AND BEGAN TO FEEL LIKE A LOSS OF CONTROL. SLOWED DOWN AND A MILE FROM SHOP THE NOISE STOPPED. WENT TO RICE TIRE IN VA AND HAD IT CHECKED. THE BOLT HOLDING TOE LINK ON RIGHT SIDE HAD DISLODGED NEARLY COMPLETELY. HAD IT REPLACED AND TOLD TO GO TO FORD TO RE TORQUE BOTH SIDES.; 09/05 WENT TO FORD. WAS INFORMED THAT MECHANIC HAD HAND TORQUED THE BOLTS, ESSENTIALLY MISREAD INSTRUCTIONS. MANAGER ACTUALLY STATED THAT THEY WERE GOING TO HAVE TO CALL MANY OTHER CUSTOMERS TO RE TORQUE THEIR TOE LINKS CORRECTLY AS WELL. I ASKED FOR ALIGNMENT AS WELL, BECAUSE THIS PROBLEM WOULD SURELY AFFECT BALANCE AND ALIGNMENT, THIS WAS PERFORMED AS WELL. THEY BILLED...

WE THEN TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAD THE RECALL COMPLETED. HERE RECENTLY, THE STEERING HAS INTERMITTENTLY BECOME VERY DIFFICULT TO OPERATE WHEN FIRST STARTED UP AND FIRST MOVING. SO FAR, WE CAN REGAIN OPERATION BY SHUTTING OFF THE VEHICLE AND THEN RESTARTING. IT SEEMS OBVIOUS THAT FORD'S "FIX" FOR THIS RECALL DID NOT ADDRESS THE ISSUE. WE ARE NOW NERVOUS THAT THIS WILL SHOW UP WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY. WE ARE NOW FACING THE HIGH COST OF REPLACING THE RACK AND PINION.
ON 11-3-2019 AT AROUND 1820 HOURS WHILE DRIVING IN THE MOUNTAINS, A YELLOW "SERVICE POWER STEERING SOON" LIGHT ILLUMINATED. I ACKNOWLEDGED THE WARNING AND FELT NO CHANGE IN HANDLING AT THE TIME. I CONTINUED DRIVING ABOUT ANOTHER 10 MINUTES TO MY DESTINATION. AS I TURNED INTO A DRIVEWAY I COULD FEEL THE STEERING GET VERY TIGHT AND MENTIONED IT TO MY PASSENGER. I PARKED THE CAR AND RETURNED ABOUT TWO AND A HALF HOURS LATER. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR AT THAT TIME, A RED "SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW" WARNING ILLUMINATED. I ATTEMPTED TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND WAS ONLY ABLE TO DO SO WITH GREAT EFFORT. I DROVE THE CAR ABOUT 100 FT AND PARKED IT FOR THE NIGHT UNTIL I CAN GET A TOW TRUCK FOR IT. ASSOCIATED TO RECALL 14S06 IS THE EXTENDED COVERAGE PROGRAM 15N01, WHICH IS TO REMAIN OPEN ON THE VEHICLES THAT WERE RECALLED IN THE EVENT THAT ANY LOSS OF STEERING ASSIST DTCS ARE PRESENT. I HAVE TO APPLY HEAVY PRESSURE ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO MAKE IT MOVE AGAIN BUT AFTERWARDS IT APPEARS TO DRIVE NORMALLY EXCEPT ON THE OCCASION WHEN IT DOES IT MULTIPLE TIMES IN A 3-4 HOUR TRIP. I MENTIONED IT TO MY FORD DEALERSHIP WHEN IN FOR OTHER SERVICE BUT NOTHING WAS EVER DONE ABOUT IT AND THEY DENIED A RECALL WAS OPEN FOR THE STEERING. FAST FORWARD TO MAY, JUNE, JULY AND AUGUST 2019. ON OCCASION WHEN BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD LOCK UP AND I COULD NOT STEER THE VEHICLE WITHOUT USING EXCESSIVE FORCE. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD THEN RELEASE AND STEER AS NORMAL. THE STEERING LOCKED ON MY 2012 FORD EXPLORER LTD. WHILE DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET. I COULD NOT TURN THE STEERING AND HAD TO COAST OFF THE ROAD. HAD TO CALL TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED. A NOTICE ON THE CAR SAID CHECK POWER STEERING. I SEEN WHERE OTHERS HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE, BUT I DIDN'T SEE IT AS A RECALL ITEM ON YOUR SITE.
POWER STEERING RECALL OF 2014- MY VEHICLE WAS RECALLED FOR STEERING WAS FIXED UNDER A RECALL IN 2014 THE EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS OF 150,000 MILES. MY VEHICLE KEEPS SHOWING A POWER STEERING ASSIST DEFAULT. IT HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY CLAIM IT IS NOT SAVING A CODE SO THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING. WHAT IS GONNA HAPPEN WHEN IT HAPPENS AT 70 MPH AND ME OR ONE OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS IS KILLED. THEY NEED TO HONOR THEIR WARRANTY AND FIX IT. I CAN NOT DRIVE IT TO DEALER ONCE THER STEERING FAILS AND THEY TELL ME THIS IS THE ONLY WAY THEY CAN FIX IT.
SINCE MARCH 2019, I HAD BEEN EXPERIENCING A SLIGHT STIFFNESS IN THE POWER STEERING. BY MAY, THE TRACTION SIGN CAME ON THEN WENT OFF. WHEN I ASKED THE DEALER ABOUT THIS, THEY SAID THERE WAS A 2-3 WEEK WAIT TO HAVE THE CAR LOOKED AT. IT DIDN'T HAPPEN OFTEN, BUT INFREQUENTLY. THEN ONE DAY IN LATE JUNE, WHEN I TURNED ON THE CAR AND BACKED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY, THERE WAS NO POWER IN THE STEERING. I DROVE BACK UP THE DRIVEWAY AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. THEN TURNED IT BACK ON AND ALL WAS FINE. IN LATE JULY IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND EARLY AUGUST IT COMPLETELY WENT OUT. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR IN AT THE DEALERSHIP ON A FRIDAY AND THEY FOUND IT WAS THE STEERING GEAR FAILED INTERNALLY. THEY FINISHED REPAIRING THE CAR BY THE FOLLOWING TUESDAY. WHEN THE CAR WAS AT 141,000 MILES I HAD...
WHILE MY WAS DRIVING SHE WENT TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP AND HEARD A NOISE. SHE THOUGHT MAYBE SHE RAN OVER GLASS OR SOMETHING. WHEN SHE WENT TO TURN THE CORNER THE VEHICLE KEPT GOING STRAIGHT. SHE ENDED UP HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE DUE TO THE REAR SUSPENSION BREAKING. MY VEHICLE IS PART OF THE REAR SUSPENSION RECALL.
THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED UP AND WENT TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. THE VEHICLE WAS PRACTICALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. THE STEERING WAS THE WORSE EVER TO TRY TO TURN THE WHEEL. HAD TO PULL INTO ANOTHER PARKING SPOT AND PARK IT THERE. TURN THE CAR OFF. THEN CAME BACK A FEW HOURS LATER AND STARTED THE CAR AND THE STEERING WORKED FINE. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON PREVIOUS OCCASIONS WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE. THE STEERING IS IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE WHEEL. AGAIN, THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE, BUT LUCKILY ONLY WHEN STARTING UP AND INITIAL DRIVING. IT HAS PROBABLY HAPPENED AT LEAST 4 TIMES TO ME AND AT LEAST 2 TIMES FOR MY WIFE. I HAVE HEARD OF OTHER PEOPLE'S STEERING STOP WHEN DRIVING!

THE INSURANCE COMPANY DEEMED THE VEHICLE A TOTAL LOSS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: CAS 21979461 BUT NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 19V435000 SUSPENSION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
CAR WON'T GO INTO PARK
WHEN TURNING LEFT STEERING WOULD NOT RETURN WITHOUT EXTREME FORCE ON MY PART. VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT KEPT ME GOING LEFT AND WOULD CAUSE A WRECK. DEALER DUPLICATED THE STEERING PROBLEM. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. DEALER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE STEERING GEAR: REFER TO RECALL 19V-435
POWER STEERING WENT OUT. MY VEHICLE IS PART OF THE RECALL. TOOK IT TO MCMULLEN FORD IN COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA. THEY TOLD ME I'M 300 MILES OVER THE RECALL AND IT WAS GOING TO COST $1,900 TO FIX. VEHICLE HAS 108,954 MILES ON IT.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR COULD NOT BE PERFORMED BECAUSE THE VIN DID NOT MATCH THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,107.
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT CAME ON. 2014 A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. I JUST BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE 3 WEEKS AGO, CAN I STILL HAVE WORK DONE.
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING 'POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT' ERRORS ON STARTUP ON MY 2012 FORD EXPLORE FWD. THIS RESULTS IN COMPLETE POWER STEERING FAILURE WHICH MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO TURN THE WHEEL TO EITHER DIRECTION. I'VE READ THAT THERE IS A RECALL BUT FORD HAS NOT SENT ME ANY NOTIFICATIONS IN MAIL OR NOTIFIED ME WHEN I HAD THE CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE.
VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN POWER STEERING LOCKED UP AND ALL DASH LIGHTS FLASHED. RESULTED STRANDED ON SIDE OF BUSY ROAD AND ALL POWER STEERING FAILED. WAS DRIVING SIDE STREET AT TIME OF OCCURRENCE. I MADE MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT FORD CORPORATE TO RESOLVE AND THEY REFUSE TO COVER UNDER GUARANTEED RECALL OF THE POWER STEERING RACK AND PINEON. I HAVE AUTO SERVICE CENTER REPAIRS WITH A REPAIR COST OF $2000.00. PLEASE ASSIST IN COVERING THIS COST FOR REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY RECALL. I HAVE ONLY OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR 2 YEARS. THANK YOU.
