After my car started and I tried to go, it shook a little, and the check engine light came on. I got it checked at a service station, and they said my coolant was low and my engine was shot, it appeared that there was a leak in the coolant that was leaking into and ruining the engine. I do not feel safe driving the car in the case that is breaks down, and with only 32,000 miles on it this is not standard for the car.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with head gasket failure. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 53,249.
If you own a Ford Escape 2017-2019 this is a must-read it will not let me upload but go to ford.com customer satisfaction and put your VIN number in they owe you a new engine. THIS IS A COVER-UP AS THEY ARE NOT A RECALL SINCE THERE HAS BEEN NO ONE HURT To whom it may concern, August 17, 2024 I bought a 2018 Ford Escape SEL on [XXX], well several months back I noticed that I had to keep adding more coolant and oil. Since the car is always parked inside, you would think you could see something on the floor. Well, I never saw anything. So, on August 8, 2024, I took it to my mechanic who on August 13, 2024, said that I needed a new engine do the following engine codes P0300, P0301-P0304, P0316, P0217, P1285, and/or P1299. After a few moments of silence, my mechanic...
The coolant and coolant system suddenly failed resulting in a full engine replacement. There were no noticeable signs of where the coolant went either. The auto is regularly serviced at a ford garage had a sensor replaced 6 months ago and no other issues were diagnosed.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was temporarily illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated while the vehicle was idling at a red traffic light, an unknown message, and the message "Emergency Stop" were displayed, an alarm sounded, and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle failed to restart and was pushed into a parking lot with assistance. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with cooling system failure and coolant intrusion into the engine. The mechanic determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The mechanic related the failure to an unknown TSB number. The vehicle was not repaired. The used car dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
Engine coolant into cylinders, resulting in white smoke exhaust, fouling spark plugs and coils due to engine coolant leak in combustion chambers, and engine coolant leak due to issue.
A couple of weeks ago my car started shaking and the engine light came on. I took it to the dealer to be told the engine blew and a replacement would be over $11k. The problem is a valve was stuck open and oil got into it. The car is barely 6 years old and has had regular service.
The coolent intrusion into the cylinders cause catastrophic engine failure. Ford knows this and still sells these. They will not cover the new engine.
I HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY ENGINE OVERHEATING AND TOOK IT TO FORD DEALER FOR SERVICE AND WAS ADVISED THAT WATER HAD GOTTEN INTO THE CYLINDER #2 I BELIEVE AND RUINED THE ENGINE. THE DEALER SAID THE WATER WAS GETTING INTO THE ENGINE BLOCK AND I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. ANOTHER SERVICE DIRECTOR FROM ANOTHER DEALER SAID THEIR WAS A ISSUE WITH FORD AND THERE WAS A PROGRAM ON THIS. A NEW ENGINE IS AROUND $7500 AND THIS WAS QUITE A SHOCK SINCE I AM ON SOCIAL SECURITY. I CONTACTED FORD AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM AND REFERRED ME TO YOU FOR HELP ON THIS ISSUE. PLEASE ADVISE ASAP SINCE THEY WANT TO INSTALL THE NEW ENGINE NEXT MONDAY OR TUES AT PITTSVILLE FORD IN PITTSVILLE, MD. The engine has failed due to a cylinder misfire that was caused by coolant leaking into the engine block. Mileage on my car is 85,918 Ford had a recall on the engine but the recall was for 84,000 miles or below. So, my car is over by 1,918 miles. Ford says they can’t do anything to offset the cost of getting a new engine.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MH, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the residence where a handheld diagnostic machine failed to retrieve any fault codes. Additionally, while the vehicle was parked on several occasions, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
Low COOLANT reservoir condition and COOLANT into the engine with regular driving and maintenance. After 58,000 miles the owner had intermittent check engine lights stating to check or change the ignition coil and/or plug on 2 of 4 cylinders. Owner did this at their own expense, and check engine light continued to go on and off intermittently and refilled COOLANT reservoir. At 60,000 miles the owner experienced some white smoke coming from engine and additional check engine lights with the same codes and one additional code relating to misfire. Owner took the vehicle to an independent mechanic which tested it and found coolant into affected cylinders. Shop advised owner to rebuild or replace the engine, but after further research into this issue identified it as catastrophic ENGINE failure and new engine replacement from Ford would be required. Owner spoke to Ford who instructed him to take it to the nearest...
On Friday, August 9, the check engine light was blinking and the car ran roughly. On Saturday, August 10, I had my car towed to AAA Repair. Current codes: P0316 - Misfire Detected on startup; P0302 - Cylinder 2 misfire; swap CYL2 coil to CYL4 & retest..misfire remains on CYL2. TSB:22-2322 indicates cylinder failure allowing coolant into the engine causing misfire and rough running. AAA recommended vehicle service be done at the dealership—complete engine rebuild/replacement. The dealership recommends a complete engine rebuild/replacement with an estimate of $11,400. The balance on paying off the car is $8,400.
Purchased vehicle used and had my mechanic inspect it. They reported that there was a possible coolant leak and so I took it back to the dealer, Antwerpen Toyota. They couldn’t find anything. After a couple oil changes where my mechanic continued to state there was a coolant leak somewhere, went back to Antwerpen where they said it could be that the radiator isn’t sealed properly. Took it to a proper Ford dealer who has now said there is coolant intrusion in an engine cylinder and the engine needs replaced, which from looking online, seems to be a frequently occurring issue with these engines that has not been recalled
While driving I received a ‘Engine Failure, Service Now’ notification; however, the check engine light was not on. I immediately called a ford dealership and said it was fine. I did not trust it and took it to an O’Reilley’s store to get a free diagnostics, everything was cleared. The next morning I still went to the dealership to ask. At this point the notification wasn’t on anymore but I did notice there was no coolant in the tank. They ran a regular diagnostics and told me car was fine. Again, I didn’t trust it and asked for more diagnostics. After charging me $200 they did it and found coolant leaking into the engine and cylinders. Car still runs but it did not make me feel safe driving with the notification and the rest of the diagnostics showing zero issues was extremely suspicious. They told me my engine needed to...
The engine was throwing multiple codes from misfires to crank sensors. Low coolant light was not working. Engine ended up having a blown head gasket and overheated because of low coolant. Upon researching the problem, I have found that this is a huge issue with the 1.5l eco boost and many people are having their motors blown while ford does nothing about the problem.
Coolant leak caused engine failure while I was driving. Engine warning came on and alerted me the Engine was overheating and to pull over as soon as it was safe to do so. I did immediately and had the car towed to Ford dealer garage
Loss of power. Driving up hill, normal acceleration. Electrical- corrosion in the fuse box under the hood. Corroded fuse pin connector plate. Found wire from ECU relay to ECU fuse pin plate corroded and completely broke from corrosion. Ordered used fuse box online, opened up the fuse box and found the same exact fuse pin plate corrosion as my vehicle. Local dealer ship told me they are replacing fuse box in customer cars on average once or twice a month.
While driving the engine would run rough and started missing which resulted in diminished power. Took it to mechanic to change spark plugs. Problem still continued. Took it to Ford dealership for diagnostic test. They determined there is coolant intrusion in cylinders #2 & # 3. Recommended engine replacement.
Coolant is leaking into cylinder 3 and is confirmed by a repair/service shop that it has a bad head gasket. No one else including dealership has inspected it. Upon research, this appears to be a well known and widespread issue with the Ford Escape 2018 as well as other years of this model. Ford continues to give no action, recall, or recourse for those affected who will be out over $5,000K to repair their engine.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated while at the local dealer for routine maintenance, upon further inspection, the contact was informed that a tune-up could not be performed due to a spark plug not being able to be removed. In addition, the contact was advised that there was a coolant intrusion into the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000.
Engine dead due to coolant intrusion from the manufacturing defect in the cylinder walls. The defect is KNOWN to be an issue according to Technical Service Bulletin 22-2229
It is a power train failure. Hi my name is [XXX] I bought a 2018 Ford escape SE 1.5L eco boost on 9-3-2022 and it had 75,000 miles on it. I’m now finding out that it had a recall (21N12) when I bought it that expired at 84,000 miles. My car is now at 120,000 miles and my engine needs to be replaced. I was never told about the recall and was still sold the car that didn’t even last 2 YEARS!!!!! Now it’s going to be $8,000 to replace my motor. Coolant is leaking into the engine and combusting, causing smoke. Happened on the highway, I had to stop and was almost hit. Local mechanic confirmed the problem, says the engine could catch on fire if I had kept driving it. The check engine light came on.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine misfired and the vehicle jerked. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with coolant intrusion and engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000.
When changing the sparkplugs, sparkplug #2 broke off in the engine and needed to have the heads replaced. This was 100,00 mile and the warranty had just ran out so we had to pay over $4,000 out of pocket to the local dealership for this repair.. This is a known issue with Ford but they will not issue a recall. There was no warning lights or sounds that this was an issue.
In March of 2024 warning lights for abs, hill assist, traction control came on while the car was driving. We stopped driving and had the error codes checked at a autozone who said the sparkplugs where misfiring on cylinder 3. it was changed and when we started the car it blew white smoke and the engine seized. The repairs were over $6000. We were told ford had a class action suit which closed on November of 2023. We opened a case but ford closed it and will not help with known problems with the 1.5 lt engine.
Took vehicle in to be serviced for a Crank shaft position sensor yesterday 7/31/2024. Have never had any other issue, but was told that they found coolant in our spark plug cylinder 3. The dealership said it would be around $9.000.00 for a new engine. Dealership said there was massive amounts of smoke and we have never experiences this issue in the past. Was last serviced on 6/24/024 with 92.086 miles.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced due to a coolant intrusion into cylinder #1. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 52,500.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated the while driving at a moderate rate of speed, the temperature gauge indicated that the engine was hot(H). The "Engine Fault Service Now" message also appeared on the instrument panel. The contact pulled over and checked under the hood and became aware that the coolant reservoir was empty. The contact added coolant however, the failure returned the next day. The contact took the vehicle to three independent mechanics who could not determine the cause of the failure. One mechanic eventually placed a camera inside the engine which showed that the coolant was leaking into cylinder #3. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the VIN. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and provided the same information as the dealer. The contact was...
Coolant intrusion into the engine, poor engine design.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed on the highway and changing lanes, the vehicle lost motive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the short block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.
Vehicle has less than 100k miles and has an engine failure resulting from coolant intrusion. Ford support admits this is a known issue but refuses to give any remedial action to solve it because the nhtsa handles recalls not them. They will not tell me anything unless I pay to have it towed to a dealer and pay for diagnostics.
We started noticing the car hesitating and engine light came on. We took it to mechanic who replaced coils and spark plugs. We drove it for two days and the same problem occurred but only worse. We took the car back and they told us it looked like one of the spark plugs was melted and tried to fix it again only for it to continue as soon as we pulled out of lot. So 3 times at that mechanic and it drove slightly ok for about a week. The next week all kinds of sensors and lights started popping up such as 4wd disabled , ABS, Hills auto start disabled. We took it to the Ford dealer to get a tune up thinking that was the problem only to receive a phone call saying our engine is ruined. There was coolant leaking into the engine and they found metal shavings...
Ford designed, manufactured, and sold flawed 1.5l engines. Ford initiated Customer Satisfaction Program 21N12 as a result. This program unfairly limit the manufacturer’s liability for THEIR design. Mileage is limited to 84,000. I myself easily googled and located many complaints online of the coolant intrusion issue not occurring until AFTER the 90,000 mile mark. How is Ford able to self-limit their liability for their dangerous and clearly faulty design? This is impacting many people who can’t afford to drop another $14,000 on an engine replacement (when many of us are making payments on a now un-driveable vehicle). Who will hold Ford responsible?
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was jerking. Additionally, there was an engine misfire. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with coolant intrusion. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,510.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. While the contact's son was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was shaking abnormally with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a blown head gasket. The contact was informed that the head gasket needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle had been serviced by the independent mechanic three times due to the persistent failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact was informed that the repair was not eligible for coverage under the Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N12. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 71,895.
Coolant leak into the engine. Problem confirmed by Ford Dealer and repaired.
The check engine light was intermittently on and off for several days in late June. We went to AutoZone to read code, which said Misfire Cylinder 3. So we bought spark plugs and asked our mechanic friend to replace all four of them before our road trip as the mechanic suggested. The safety of the driver and passengers was put at risk due to the high engine temperature warning while driving on the highway, indicating a potential engine overheating issue. We waited till it cooled down and saw the coolant was below the minimum level. So, we drove to a small car care centre. They didn’t find any leak and just added some coolant. And the check engine light was cleared. But it came back on again the next day and we were still loosing coolant. We were too worried to drive too far, so we went to Meineke in...
Antifreeze is leaking into the valves. It requires a new engine. The vehicle has 108000+ miles and has regular maintenance. The engine light came on and said the issue was the 2nd valve. Could be a spark plug or coil. On the way to be serviced, very visible white smoke came from the exhaust. Had all spark plugs and coils replaced for an update. Light came on again as did the issue with power train warning. Then the overheating of the car after only driving 2 miles. Further inspection with a camera showed antifreeze in the engine. Ford has already published TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 2.0L EcoBoost - Coolant In Cylinders, White Exhaust Smoke And/Or Illuminated MIL as they recognize it is an issue. chrome [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Coolant Leak, engine damage, overheated engine
Coolant intrusion caused my engine to have to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at various speeds on several occasions, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was restarted. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the short block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the short block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,320.
Misfiring, running rough and low on coolant 55,000 miles only.
FLEX BROKEN AGAIN THIS WILL BE 3RD FLEX PLATE PUT INTO CAR. ALL WORK DONE AT FORD CAR ONLY HAS 80,000 MILES ON IT ABOUT EVERY 20.000 MILES IT BRAKES
Engine light came on. I took it to repair shop, they inspected and told me there is a Coolant leak in the Combustion Chamber and I, eventually will have to replace they engine. Therefore, in the County I currently live in, the vehicle will not pass required Emission Test and I will not be able to renew registration. The car is 2018 Ford Escape with only 46,413 miles with perfect service record.
I received my car back from All Star Ford on [XXX] with a rebuilt transmission installed. Since the repairs were under warranty I only had to pay $100 out of pocket. The following week I took the car in to have an oil change. The car seemed to run fairly well until [XXX]. The car started to make a strange rattling noise and a notification popped up saying that I needed to get an oil change soon. I thought this to be pretty strange as I had just got an oil change in April 2024 after I received the car back. I decided to take the car to get an oil change on [XXX] in which comments were noted that there was a major oil leak present and transmission fluid leaking as well. The following day on [XXX], as I was out and about, the car started to make the...
Engine due to coolant intrusion to cylinders. Car hesitates to go, stalls out, hard to start TSB was released for this issue. The car is at a Ford dealer and now needs a full engine replacement The engine light came on at 102000 miles issues started at 56000 reported to the dealer but never fixed 2 ford dealers didn't follow TSB issues 19-2375 to do repairs while under warranty. Now over 100000, they want me to pay for repair after it has been reported to them for the last 50000 miles, and a TSB released matches the issues I reported
Got a check engine light took it for a diagnostic checkup and was told I had coolant intrusion. My vehicle has 104k miles so Ford will not assist in any way to cover the cost of repair which I was quoted 11k to replace the engine at Rod Baker Ford. This is a known issue with Ford Ecoboost engines
The coolant leaks into the cylinder bore. This does not cause the car to stall until the coolant gets to low. The car stalled on my son (new driver) pulling into traffic due to the piston misfires caused by the coolant in the cold engine. Dealer has confirmed coolant intrusion.
