TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CONTACTED AND A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS AWAITING INSPECTION. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,000.
WHILE IN MOTION ON THE INTERSTATE DOING 75 MPH MY CAR STARTED MAKING A TICKING SOUND. I WASN'T SURE WHAT IT WAS AT THE TIME BUT I KNEW IT WAS GOOD. WHILE GETTING OFF THE EXIT I NOTICED MY BREAKS WERE GOING OUT. THEY WERE VERY HARD TO PUSH DOWN AND IT BARELY MADE MY CAR STOP. I TOOK IT TO A NEW BY PLACE THAT WAS ABLE TO READ SOME CODES. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON AND THE CODES CAME UP AS CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSOR. I REPLACED THE SENSOR AND IT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I THEN TOOK MY CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I LIVE. AT THIS POINT IT HAD DIED TWICE ON THE INTERSTATE AND STILL MADE A HORRIBLE TICKING SOUND. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT MY VACUUM PUMP HAD COME LOOSE AND THE BOLT HAD GOTTEN METAL IN MY ENGINE WHICH...
I WAS DRIVING MY 2014 FORD ESCAPE FOR ABOUT 10 MIN. ON WHITNEY MILL RRD. IN ONTARIO COUNTY NEW YORK. WHEN I GOT AN ALERT ON MY DASH BOARD. IT SAID ENGINE OVER HEATING PULL OVER ( OR SOMETHING ALONG THOSE LINES) I LOOK DOWN AT THE TEMPETURE GAGE AS I WAS PULLING OVER. THE NEEDLE WAS IN PERFECT POSITION BETWEEN HOT AND COLD. AFTER I STOOPED ( ABOUT 30 SECONDS AT T HE MOST) I GOT OUT, OPEN THE HOOD AND SAW FLAMES COMING UP IN THE BACK OF THE ENGINE BETWEEN THE ENGINE AND FIREWALL. I INSTRUCTED MY WIFE TO GET HERSELF AND THE DOG OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THEN I BEGAN THROWING SNOW ONTO THE AREA WHERE THE FIRE WAS COMING FROM. IN MY OPINION KEEPING THE FIRE CONTAINED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EVENTUALLY SHOW UP ( GUESSING 15 MIN.) THEY TOOK OVER FROM THAT POINT. SPRAYED FIRE...
I WAS DRIVING UP THE INTERSTATE AFTER WORK AND WHILE I WAS DRIVING I BEGAN TO NOTICE SMOKE. I LOOKED AROUND AND REALIZED IT WAS MY CAR. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE AND MY CAR STARTED FLASHING EVERYTHING ON THE DASH PANEL WAS RED AND FLASHING ENGINE FAILURE. I CUT THE CAR OFF AND THEN WENT TO TRY AND POP THE HOOD, I COULDN'T GET IT OPENED AND I LOOKED DOWN AND BEGAN TO SEE FLAMES. I CALLED 911 AND MY CAR ENGULFED IN FLAMES. I HAD A RECALL ON MY CAR FOR A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE CYLINDER HEAD SAYING THAT IT COULD CAUSE AN ENGINE FIRE IF OILS WERE TO GET OUT AND HIT A HOT SURFACE. I GOT MY RECALL FIXED AND THEN MY CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE A FEW WEEKS LATER.

THE CONTACT IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SAW FLAMES SHOOTING OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE CONTACT CALLED 911 AND BEFORE THE POLICE AND THE FIRE TRUCK ARRIVED AT THE SCENE, THE VEHICLE BLEW UP. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. A POLICE AND FIRE REPORT WERE FILED. THERE WAS NO INJURY, THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED THE CONTACT WITH A CASE NUMBER. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY'S TOW YARD. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE DID NOT RECEIVE THE NOTIFICATION OF THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V209000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING).THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS ABOUT 80,000.
THE CAR CONSUMES COOLANT AT A RATE OF ABOUT 3-4 QUARTS IN THE 5 MONTHS I'VE OWNED IT. I NOTICED IT WHILE CHANGING THE OIL. I AM AWARE THAT OTHER VINS FROM MY CAR'S MODEL YEAR AND ENGINE STYLE ARE ELIGIBLE FOR A RECALL CONCERNING THIS ISSUE, WHICH CAN CAUSE THE ENGINE TO CATCH FIRE. (RECALL CODE 17V209) I AM UNCLEAR AS TO WHY MY VIN IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST, WHEN IT WAS MADE IN THE SAME FACTORY, WITHIN THE IDENTIFIED TIMEFRAME, WITH THE SAME ENGINE, AND EXHIBITING THE SAME DANGEROUS PROBLEM.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT MANUFACTURED AT THE RIGHT TIME TO BE INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V209000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN YOU DRIVE THE CAR FOR A WHILE (45+ MINUTES), TURN IT OFF, AND THEN START IT UP 15-45 MINUTES LATER. IT WILL START BUT THEN WITHIN THE FIRST 100 YARDS IT WILL GO SLUGGISH AND STALL. WHEN I TRY TO GIVE IT GAS THAT DOESN'T HELP. I HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF, PUT IT IN PARK AND START IT BACK UP. A FEW TIMES IT'S STALLED 3 TIMES IN A ROW. ONCE IT GETS GOING GOOD IT'S FINE. IT'S ALWAYS FINE IF IT'S BEEN OFF FOR A WHILE (FIRST THING IN THE MORNING OR STARTING AFTER WORK). EVENTUALLY THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, I TOOK IT TO A SHOP, A GUY DIAGNOSED IT, CHANGED OUT A SENSOR AND THE FUEL PUMP. IT DIDN'T HELP.
MY VEHICLE WAS OVERHEATED FOR ABOUT 3 TIMES AND I HAVE REPORTED IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP HERE IN AMERICAN SAMOA. I ALSO RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ABOUT THIS VEHICLE (SAFETY RECALL NOTICE 17S09). UP TO NOW, THE FORD DEALERSHIP HAVE NOT FIX THIS RECALL ISSUE AND I AND MY FAMILY ARE ALWAYS AT HIGHER DANGEROUS RISK DUE TO THIS UNRESOLVED RECALL. I HAVE PAID HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR FIXING THE PROBLEM VIA OTHER REPLACEMENT PARTS AND STILL NOTHING DIRECTLY TO THE RECALL PART. THE RECALL PART IS THE ENGINE COOLANT.

I HAVE HAD 2 PRIOR REPAIRS MADE DUE TO RECALLS. THE DOORS AND AN ENGINE PART. THE DEALERSHIP JUST REPAIRED A SENSOR ON MY CAR LAST WEEK. NOW MY CAR IS STALLING WHEN I FIRST START IT (STATIONARY) OR FEELS LIKE IT'S GOING TO STALL WHILE DRIVING AT A RATE OF 45 MPH. IT ONLY HAS 56K ON IT. I HAVE NOTICED ONGOING ISSUES WITH THE DOORS, BUT WILL ADVISE THE DEALERSHIP SINCE THEY FIXED THEM AS PART OF THE FIRST RECALL.
I TOOK THE CAR TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER (JONES WEST FORD IN RENO NV) FOR RECALL 17V-209 WHICH IS RELATED TO OVERHEATING THAT CAN CAUSE THE CYLINDER HEAD TO CRACK AND MAY RESULT IN FIRE. THE SERVICE ADVISER INFORMED ME THAT IT HAD A CRACKED HEAD BASED ON THEIR EXPERTISE, LOW COOLANT AND AMOUNT OF HYDROCARBONS WHEN TESTED. THE ONLY SOLUTION IS A NEW MOTOR. WHEN ASKED ABOUT IT BEING COVERED UNDER THE RECALL, HE QUICKLY SAID IT WAS NOT AND THE REPAIR WOULD BE $8,000.00. I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY FOR FURTHER REVIEW. DURING THE SAME SERVICE VISIT, THE TECH PERFORMED RECALL 16S30 ON ALL DOOR LATCHES. THE NEXT DAY I FOUND THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WINDOW TO NOT BE OPERATING PROPERLY. KNOWING THAT THE TECH HAD TO ACCESS THE REPAIR FROM THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR PANEL, I ASKED THE DEALER TO TAKE...

I STARTED MY VEHICLE YESTERDAY TO WARM UP AND ABOUT 5-10 MINUTES LATER HEARD A BIG BOOM, LOOKED OUT THE DOOR AND THE FRONT END OF MY ESCAPE WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. I HAD SCHEDULED IT TO GET REPAIRED YESTERDAY MORNING, BUT WAS UNABLE TO MAKE IT AS WE RECEIVED A LOT OF SNOW AND SCHOOLS WERE CANCELLED AND SUCH. I HAD KNOWN OF THE RECALL SINCE LAST YEAR SINCE I ALREADY WAS INVOLVED IN ANOTHER RECALL WITH THE LATCH. I TRIED TO GET THEM TAKEN CARE OF AT THE SAME TIME, BUT THE REMEDY WAS NOT AVAILABLE AND WOULDN'T BE FOR SOME TIME. I RECEIVED A NOTICE DIRECTLY FROM FORD BETWEEN ONE AND TWO WEEKS AGO AND CALLED ZIEGLER IN ELKHART TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, BUT THEY WEREN'T AVAILABLE FOR ALMOST A WEEK. IT IS OBVIOUS THE DAMAGE WAS ALREADY DONE WITH MY CAR ANYWAY, CONSIDERING THE DESCRIPTION...
MY 2014 FORD ESCAPE CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE STATIONARY AT MY SON'S ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. I WAS WAITING IN THE DROP OFF LANE AT MY SON'S SCHOOL WHEN MY SUV STARTED TO SMOKE FROM UNDERNEATH THE DASH, I TRIED TO MOVE THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE LANE SO I WOULD NOT BLOCK OTHER PARENTS FROM COMING INTO THE SCHOOL, AND IT WOULD NOT DRIVE, MORE SMOKE CAME INTO THE CAB AND I QUICKLY GOT MY SON OUT OF THE CAR AND AWAY. IT CONTINUED TO SMOKE, AND I REALIZED THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING, I QUICKLY SHUT IT OFF. NO FLAMES WERE SEEN, AND I HAD NO REALIZED IT WAS ACTUALLY ON FIRE UNTIL WE HAD IT TOWED TO A GARAGE. CAR PURCHASED 1/18/2014. SAFETY RECALL NOTICE 17S09/NHTSA RECALL 17V-209 RECEIVED 4/2017. PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE TILL 11/22/2017. BY THIS TIME, VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. COOLANT SEEPAGE WAS DUE TO PRESSURE FRACTURES WITHIN COOLANT TANK WALLS AND TANK NOT PART OF RECALL. THE "LOW LEVEL SENSOR" IS A NEEDED ADDITION BUT I FAR AS I CAN TELL, THE REPLACEMENT COOLANT TANK IF NOT AN IMPROVED TANK, WILL ALSO DEVELOP PRESSURE FRACTURES IN THE FUTURE. MAYBE FORD WILL HAVE A TANK FIX LATER.

ON JANUARY 6, 2018, I DROVE HOME FROM MY JOB 10 MILES AWAY. WHEN I TOOK I-95, MY FORD ESCAPE 2014 TURN OFF AND CONTINUED MOVING IN THE MIDDLE LANE. I MANAGED TO REACH THE CENTRAL SEPARATOR UNTIL IT STOPPED COMPLETELY. WHEN I TRIED TO START THE CAR OVER, I FELT A BURNT SMELL, DUE TO THAT FACT I DECIDED TO LEAVE MY FORD SCAPE 2014 AND REALIZED THAT IT GOT SUDDENLY ON FIRE. AS A PROOF, THE INCIDENT WAS RECORDED BY THE LOCAL NEWSCAST. IT'S IMPERATIVE FOR ME A SOLUTION FROM FORD CONSIDERING THAT I STILL OWE 19.000.00 TO THE BANK.

MY VEHICLE RAN LOW ON COOLANT ON 2 INSTANCES IN NOVEMBER 2017, WITH THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE RISING INTO THE RED ZONE WHILE DRIVING. BOTH TIMES I PULLED OVER, TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND RESTATED, AND THE VEHICLE RAN FINE. I FILLED THE COOLANT RESERVOIR TOOK TO A LOCAL GARAGE, THEY COULD NOT FIND A CAUSE FOR THE LOW COOLANT (NO SIGN OF LEAK & IT PASSED A PRESSURE TEST). THEIR ADVICE WAS TO MONITOR THE COOLANT LEVEL AND IT THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP. I EXPERIENCED NO FURTHER ISSUES UNTIL THE EVENING OF JAN. 7, 2018, WHEN MY ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION AFTER DRIVING FOR ONLY 2 MILES. THE MAIN DASH DISPLAY SHOWED AN "ENGINE FAILURE" MESSAGE.
