2013 FORD ESCAPE Engine Problems

Anytime I am driving for an extended amount of time, inevitably, the vehicle will come up with a P1299 fault code and the vehicle will reduce power by 50%, causing me to have to pull over on the side of the road. Check the coolant levels and they are fine, there is no smell of anything burning, and the coolant temp - recorded by the vehicle, is just shy of a normal 199 degrees F. This issue seems like it falls under the well-known Safety Recall kit 17S09, but when I check my VIN #, there are no 'unanswered recalls'

Massive leak at Turbo hose, would of blown my engine if I didn’t catch the massive oil leak. Was informed Ford changed the hose from rubber to steel. Won’t do a recall on it.

The coolant runs low and puffs smoke from the exhaust each morning upon startup. This is consistant with recall # 12V551, but my VIN is not included in that recall. It has the same exact issues, so I would like this to be covered before our engine blows up.

The engine loss power and stall. I press the accelerator and it does not responde or it runs very slowly. When the AC is turned on this gets worse.

Check coolant light came on, took to my local Ford dealer. Diagnosis from Charles Gabus Ford: Vehicle is losing coolant due to a crack in the engine. This is a known Ford defect. The car is currently not in operation due to the risk of the engine catching fire. Estimate from Ford = $8,880.

Engine sputtering, took into dealer service week of 7/30/2021 - had wiring harness replaced. Took car back, engine light came back on, returned to dealer service week of 8/6. Car gave Evac code of a solenoid sensor issue. Team suggested solenoid replacement and new spark plugs - work done and picked up Friday 8/6/2021. By Monday 8/9/2021 Check engine light back on. Took back to dealer service. Code given out was #4 Cylinder Misfire and cylinder was "wet" looking. Overnight pressure test was completed and leaking was found from the coolant system into the engine. A boarscope was used and coolant was found on top of #4 piston. Engine is leaking coolant internally. Service Manager at dealership says this is a design flaw not an indication of use/wear/tear. Said there was a tech bulletin put out about the flaw, but that tech sheet has now been wiped from their system....

The vehicle overheats. Happens every now and then. It once overheated, shutdown and had to be towed to the Ford dealer; who said there is nothing to do other than turning off the AC when going up a steep hill. And even that doesn't work.

The coolant low gauge failed, stating that the coolant was low and the car was overheating and needed to be pulled off to a safe side. With the odometer not reaching the H showing it was approaching hot too soon. Before an individual could fully pull off the road safely car started to shake, the light went red, the dash said car overheating pull off, and the car turned off. The individual was still somewhat in a lane and on the side of the freeway where cars could still possibly hit the car and roll off the side of a cliff. This problem has been confirmed by a dealer before. The vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer. The warning lights and messages did not give enough warning to get off the road to safety.

Coolant has been leaking from vehicle over the course of a month and a half. Fill reservoir only to have to refill within a week to two weeks with coolant.

The purge valve (whole system) has failed on my vehicle when it was on less than 5 years old. This can cause for the vehicle to pause which is dangerous. Because my purge valve (whole system) failed, not only did input my family at risk for danger, I now have to pay out of pocket to have this repair. I did not have the money to get it repair and now that I do I have to pay over $600. Ford has recognized that this is a systemic issue, however they somehow were able to focus their recall to specific manufacturers which did not cover all including my vehicle.

Vehicle will not start after fueling. Takes up to 20 minutes delay to start vehicle after filling tank with fuel. Not a single incident. Has happened every time I have fueled the vehicle over the course of several months. Mechanic stated it is an emissions problem with this model vehicle, but there is no recall issued.

One of the radiator hoses, causing all of the coolant to drain in less than 1 second, followed by tremendous amounts of smoke coming from the engine. Code P26B7 Engine Bypass Coolant is shown when diagnostic is performed. I have to add coolant on a regular basis (1-2 x’s a week) My VIN has not been included in SAFETY RECALL 13S12 or any other pertaining to engine/coolant issues. My year model, date manufactured which is 1/13, engine type (1.6L) should qualify for this type of recall. This has been an ongoing problem for 3 years plus. I always check my coolant levels before I leave to see if I need to add coolant and I keep extra coolant in my car to add whenever warning light “coolant low” warning appears (which I never know when that will happen). While driving vehicle, the temperature warning light came on as did the power steering light. Went into limp mode. Coolant was full. Had to have it towed. This is second time this happened. Let vehicle sit for a day and tried it again. With in 2 minutes of it cranking, it did the same thing. Now have it at a mechanics shop.

FORD has recalled certain 2013 Escape's for the Engine coolant bypass solenoid. My 2013 Escape has failed(check engine light code P26B7) but is not covered. The Ford dealer wanted to charge $550 to fix it. I declined as the part is $59 and labor at 2 hours is $120 in my area.

The car will stall out and say it’s overheating when it isn’t. This is very dangerous because it can cause a major accident. I have taken it to Ford dealership and another mechanic and each time they say there is nothing wrong with it but it’s been doing this since 2017 when I bought it.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY I RECEIVED A SERVICE ALERT SAYING "LOW COOLANT SERVICE NOW". INTERESTINGLY MY CAR HAS ALWAYS SEEMED TO HATE GOING SLIGHTLY UPHILL AND I IMMEDIATELY THOUGHT IT MUST BE RELATED, BUT I JUST HAD MY CAR SERVICED ABOUT A WEEK PRIOR. THE CAR SUDDENLY STALLS WHILE DRIVING. HAS HAPPENED ABOUT ONCE A WEEK FOR THE PAST 2 MONTHS. NO ENGINE CODES HAVE APPEARED AND NONE WERE DETECTED WHEN I TOOK CAR TO AUTO REPAIR SHOP SHORTLY AFTER AN EVENT. HAS HAPPENED SHORTLY AFTER INITIALLY STARTING VEHICLE.

MY 2013 FORD ESCAPE JUST HIT 100,000 MILES. THE CAR STARTED STALLING OUT WHEN EXCELERATING. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY CODES WHEN ANALYZING IT. THEY REPLACED POINTS & PLUGS. DEALERSHIP INDICATED THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THE ENGINE STALLING; THANK GOODNESS IT HAPPENED TO THE SERVICE WHEN HE TEST DROVE IT. I CAME HOME AND RESEARCHED STALLING 2013 ESCAPES, WAS SURPRISED TO SEE ALL THE PROBLEMS; NOT SURE WHAT SITES FORD USES FOR RESEARCH. WHEN I WENT TO PICK THE VEHICLE UP AFTER PAYING MY $400 BILL, I NEVER MADE IT OUT OF THE PARKING LOT, IT STALLED OUT AGAIN. SO THE ESCAPE IS STILL SITTING ST THE DEALERSHIP.

MY VEHICLE STALLS/ LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND RESIDENTIAL ROADS, , STALLS / LOSS OF POWER WHILE AT LOW RPM OR COMING TO A STANDSTILL , I HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT BY OTHER CARS SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM, I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO NAPA FORD AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT REPEAT THE ISSUE, NAPA FORD TOLD ME IT WAS PROBABLY AN ISSUE WITH MY BATTERY SO WE REPLACED THE BATTERY WITH A NEW ONE, THIS HAS NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM WITH STALLING/ LOSS OF POWER!

WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE VEHICLE WILL JUST SHUT OFF. DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AT 55 THE VEHICLE JUST SHUTS OFF ALMOST CAUSING A REAL BAD ACCIDENT. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR ROUGHLY A YEAR AND A COUPLE MONTHS AND THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED AT LEAST A MINIMUM OF 50 TIMES. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR INTO A SHOP TO GET DIAGNOSED AND NO-ONE CAN FIGURE OUT THE ISSUE. MY 17 YEAR DRIVES THIS VEHICLE AND IF THIS IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I SEEN THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE ON MY FORD ESCAPE 2013. THIS VEHICLE HAS NEVER STALLED JUST SITTING STILL ALWAYS STALLED WHILE MOVING FORWARD BETWEEN THE SPEEDS OF 20-65

ENGINE IS LOSING COOLANT, BUT NO LEAK IS VISIBLE. ENGINE IS ALSO LOSING OIL BUT NO OIL IS VISIBLE. THIS VEHICLE WAS BUILT IN 6/12 WHICH SHOULD MEAN IT'S IN THE RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM BUT IT'S NOT FOR SOME REASON

VEHICLE IS TALLING INTERMITTEN WHILE STOPPED OR IDLING. PROBLEM IS BECOMING MORE AND MORE COMMEN.VEHICLE STARTS BACK BUT WILL CONTINUE TO STALL WHEN STOPPING OR IDLING. THE ISSUES ARE THE SAME AS PREVIOUS RECALLED VEHICLES WITH WIRING HARNESS ISSUES. PLEASE FIGURE SOMETHING OUT SO THIS DOESN'T BECOME MORE OF A SAFETY ISSUES. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS COME ON AND NO MECHANIC CAN FIND AN ISSUE. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE FIXED ASAP FORD!

CAR IS STALLING NONE STOP

WHEN IDLING THE ENGINE WILL STALL. IT WILL START RIGHT BACK UP BUT SOMETIMES WILL STALL AGAIN WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. OFTEN THERE ISOK NO POWER WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE.. I HAVE HAD TO PUT COOLANT IN AT LEAST TWICE IN 2 MONTHS. THE VEHICLE OVERHEATS AND FORCES ME TO PULL OVER. NONE OF THE GAGES INDICATE OVERHEAT.

I PULLED IN THE DRIVE WAY. PUT THE SUV IN PARK BUT MY CAR WAS STILL ROLLING. I NOTICED MY DASH SAID I WAS IN NEUTRAL. I TURNED THE CAR OFF THEN BACK ON BUT MY GEAR SHIFTER WAS LOCKED. I THEN STARTED LOOKING UP WITH THE PROBLEM MAY BE. I WAS ABOUT TO RELEASE MY GEAR SHIFTER BUT USING THE UNLOCK WHITE LEVER UNDER THE COMPARTMENT. STILL NOTHING CHANGED MY CAR WAS STILL IN NATURAL. HAD EMERGENCY BREAK ACTIVATED TO KEEP THE CAR IN PLACE IN MY DRIVE. KEPT SEARCHING AN FOUND OUT THE PROBLEM WOULD BE THE TRANSMISSION CABLE BUSHING. IT WAS ALMOST MIDNIGHT SO I LEFT MY CAR OVERNIGHT WITH E BREAK ON TILL DAY LIGHT. THIS MORNING WENT OUT TO INVESTIGATE AN SURE ENOUGH IT WAS DETACHED. THE BUSHING WAS GONE. I MANUALLY BUT MY CAR IN PARK. CALLED ALL AUTO STORES AN THE INFORMED ME...

I HAVE A 2013 FORD ESCAPE SE, 1.6 L AND RECENTLY IT WILL ACT LIKE IT IS NOT IN GEAR WHEN DRIVING, THE ENGINE WILL NOT REVE UP, NOTHING HAPPENS WHEN PRESSING GAS PEDAL. ON OCCASION SHE SAID THE BATTERY LIGHT AND OIL LIGHT WOULD COME ON WHEN IT DOES THIS. SHE TURNS OFF IGNITION, RESTART AND IS FINE TILL NEXT TIME. BECOMING MORE FREQUENT. HAPPENS AT ALL SPEEDS.

2013 FORD ESCAPE, COOLANT LEAK FROM THE TIME I PURCHASED IN 2015, RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP TO RESOLVE ISSUE 3 TIMES AND ISSUE WAS NOT RESOLVED. LAST TIME THERE THEY INFORMED ME A RADIATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WHICH I WAS UNABLE TO AFFORD.I HAVE BEEN FILLING W/ANTIFREEEZE UNITLNOW TO BRING TO A MECHCANIC. NO LEAK IN RADIATOR HE FEELS THE ENGINE BURNING THE COOLANT AND A HEAD GASKET NEEDED. I SEE THERE IS A RECALL DO TO COOLANT LEAKCAUSING A FIRE. I NEED TO KNOW WHATS MY NEXT STEP TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE TO AVOID A DANGEROUS ENCOUNTER.
