While merging onto the highway, I got into the right lane. While in motion my car stalled and went from 70 mph to 40 mph almost instantly. There have been many other times of engine stalling that has made me fear to drive this vehicle with my child. I noticed that " engine stalling" and the engine in general have been a common issue specific year make and model while researching this vehicles history. There have also been many major repairs and more needed repairs that will cost more than the vehicles worth. The turbo was recently repaired , water bypass valve , valve cover, spark plugs. With more repairs to be made due to fluids still leaking , and a certified mechanic noting that the catalytic converter will need to be replaced. The repairs done and the repairs needed will greatly cost more than the vehicles worth. I'm asking...
Vehicle was taken in for diagnosis as it kept alerting that coolant was low and shutting off due to over heating alert. Coolant reservoir ans sensors were changed prior to that date. I was advised that the vehicle needs the engine short block replaced. The repair of the vehicles along with the quote exceeds the vehicle value.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated he noticed a burning oil odor and smoke was coming from underneath the hood. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact stated that he noticed that the vehicle was experiencing the failure listed in NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V583000 (Engine). The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the VIN was not under recall. The contact was referred to the NHTSA for assistance. The failure mileage was 104,075.
Complete engine failure and ecoboost needed due to internal coolant leak that was reported the day purchased. Ford knew about these recalls and the issues were exactly the same but sold this to me anyway and refused to properly fix it. The engine in my car has been recalled but like thousands of others our vin isn’t falling in the recall list.
My 2013 ford escape has electrical problems, the biggest issue the gears are jumped. I put it on drive and it gets stuck and then it slows down no power to engine.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving on a local street, the vehicle overheating warning light illuminated. The contact merged to the side of the roadway and discovered that the vehicle was leaking coolant fluid. The contact added more coolant fluid and was able to drive home safely. A dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Car falsely indicates overheating and goes into “limp mode” not allowing me to accelerate even while driving. Has occurred on freeway, while parked, in intersections, and has posed a threat to my safety over a hundred times. Been yelled at by other drivers and almost hit countless times because I’ve been unable to accelerate whilst trying to pull over safely. “Hill start assist not available” appears and then “engine fault service now” accompanied by the speedometer going to 0mph (even while driving) as well as the RPM’s going to 0. Lastly, “high engine temperature” appears and car starts shaking and lurching and the engine gets extremely loud until I’m able to turn it off. Sometimes turns back on right away, sometimes I’m stuck in car on side of road/freeway for minutes-hours. Been to 2 Ford dealerships as well as many mechanics and have been told it’s fixed several times and...
Unknown Coolant is leaking, but from under the hood on the drivers side. All the coolant poured out of the vehicle after the car was shut off on June 16, 2022. This has not happened again but has continued to leak. I noticed there was a recall for my year escape for coolant leaks and possible fires in 2012. I would like my vehicle to be inspected for this by my Ford dealership, along with the other recalls to be done.
Car basically does not want to pick up during acceleration. The accelerator has been replaced and this is still an issue, almost caused an accident.
Service engine soon light came on and began having issues with the low coolant coming on every few weeks. Codes on engine light came up as Engine Coolant Bypass Valve C Control Circuit Open. Vehicle then started having coolant light come on multiple times in the same day after coolant had been added and then would not start. Tried to start and Engine made a clanking noise and alerted to turn off immediately. Codes read again for bypass valve and now Engine Misfire on Cylinder 4 and misfire on startup. Had vehicle towed to a shop and upon inspection they observed coolant leaking into the engine due to block/head porosity in metal. Was told that this was a common problem with this engine style and the only was to fix is to replace the engine. Was told if the engine was not replaced that it would continue to misfire and...
Car basically does not want to pick up during acceleration. The accelerator has been replaced and this is still an issue, almost caused an accident. Continuing oil and antifreeze leak always in the shop
There is a coolant leak in my 2013 Escape engine. There were approximately 90,000 miles on this vehicle when we purchased it used. It started having problems immediately. The dealer where we got our vehicle from stated that they would make us pay the difference in depreciation to return the vehicle even though it had a 30 day warranty. The coolant would leak and then there was low coolant. Whitish blue smoke would pour from the tailpipe. Ford refuses to acknowledge that there is a manufacturing defect even though Ford installed "coolant temperature gauges" to prevent the overheating. This is simply just a bandaid to a larger problem that multiple Escape owners are experiencing. This vehicle has been to 2 different Ford dealers, both of whom told me different things that were wrong. Consequently, this vehicle has been sitting at a Ford dealership in Hanover, PA since February 2020 because...
There is an internal coolant leak, coolant will get so low that vehicle gives warning that it will automatically shut down. While at highway speed it makes it dangerous to try and safely pull over.
While driving my vehicle is slowing down losing power it doesn't want to stay started while at a light Will hesitate to stay started and will just cut off. And hesitate to restart this is not the first time that this has happened ethier.
2013 Ford Escape 1.6 ecoboost engine, at around 103,000 miles, a quarter size spot of coolant on the drive was first notice. Every now and then the low coolant warning came on, but the coolant was barely below the minimum line. In 2020-21, had taken it to my local mechanic and another time to my Ford Dealer. Both told me no leakage was found. Neither informed me of this being a known issue with this engine coolant system, nor about the recalls. In April, the low coolant warning came on, this time coolant loss was significant. I had to add 1/2 gallon of water even it I drove only 5 miles. I noticed the coolant only leaked out while the vehicle was running, never when parked. I took it into Ford Service Department for repair. They determined it is an internal coolant leak. Due to a design defect, coolant leak...
My son was driving stopped at a red light vehicle shut off while in drive it will not stay running. This is not the first time it has happened in traffic. If he was not stopped he could of been seriously hurt along with myself and daughter. I see there is a investigation on the 1.6 but not 2.0. This needs to be looked at before someone gets hurt or worse killed.
This Vechicle has been serviced at Ford Dealership since purchasing it.every 3,000 miles synthetic oil change, balance, rotate and eliminate if needed and certified inspection at a cost of $412.00 plus any repairs. The Vechicle started overheating while my daughter was taking her kids to school in the neighborhood, she hurried and used the onboard fire extinguisher due to all the smoke and the children were in restraints car seats. This issue is a100% match to the recall for this Vechicle (not my vin?) the fuel line is also leaking and matches recall 100%. Ford needs to include my Vechicle it’s been sitting ever since the incident.
The contact's daughter owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving approximately 20 MPH, the vehicle jerked and stopped abruptly. The transmission warning message was displayed. The vehicle was driven to her parents' residence. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and then towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred her to NHTSA. No additional assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 101,000.
Losing coolant much like the other vehicles with the same 1.6L engine.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while in the vehicle with the engine idling for 10 minutes, the contact then attempted to park the vehicle however, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was restarted and taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed; however, the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The failure had recurred twice. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 104,575.
Engine frequently overheating, this was recall for my model/ year/vehicle and I was told vin# doesn't associate with recall. I would like to know why.
The controls in the driver side door stopped working. No window or door locks could be activated. The car was taken in to the Ford dealership and it was repaired so the controls worked. A few months later, while driving on the interstate at 70 MPH the engine turned off with no warning. All the warning lights in the electrical panel lit up after the engined turned off. After getting off the road and sitting for a few minutes the car started with no problem. After driving 20 minutes, we stopped and tried to use the controls in the driver side door to put the window down. No controls in the driver door functioned. I took the car in for repair but there were no loaner cars and was told they would have to keep the car at least two weeks. I needed transportation so I waited to take the...
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 5-10 MPH, the vehicle stalled inadvertently. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact was unable to veer to the side of the road. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The contact stated that he continued to drive the vehicle; however, the failure reoccurred the next day while pulling out of a parking spot. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred several times while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer twice and the dealer informed the contact that they could not replicate the failure. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring increasingly, 2-3 times per day. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who informed the contact that they could not replicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The...
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that coolant was leaking from under the hood of the vehicle onto the engine. The check engine warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle would overheat occasionally with a message to pull over, stop, turn off the vehicle, and allow the engine to cool down. The contact was informed by the dealer that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V336000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) and 13V583000 (Engine) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown. Case number [XXX} INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).”
The computer issues a high engine temperature warning without physical indication of high temperature on the dash thermometer. This results in reducing engine power into “limp mode”. The temperature indicator immediately rises to maxim high. The engine does not shut off but there is no power. The safety concern is: if this condition would occur while in fast moving traffic around a city belt-way, the sudden loss of power and speed reduction could make the vehicle susceptible to a rear end collision or endanger other drivers trying to avoid a slow moving vehicle tryin to get off the road.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while her husband was driving 25 MPH, the engine overheating warning light was illuminated before the vehicle stalled. The driver was able to restart the vehicle. The driver added engine coolant but continue to experience failure. The vehicle was not drivable. The driver towed the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that the head gasket needed to be replaced. The mechanic also noticed that the engine was cracked. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The contact attempted to call the manufacturer but was unable to speak to a representative. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000. There was a faulty fuel injector which caused it to not pass emissions. After taking care of that problem, the coolant would run dry very quickly, in a matter of minutes. At this point, the engine light...
My son was driving up a hill on January 26, 2022 and the car stalled. I called the Ford dealer and they said I had to take it in and pay for the repairs. This is a 2013 Ford Escape and I was reading on the internet that these cars have these problems. My son said there was no warning lights before this happened, it just stalled on a busy, dangerous highway. Thank God he was not hurt. I don't know what else to do. This problem should get taken care of with so many people having the same issue.
The sensor for cooling system goes off for low coolant even though there is a full amount of coolant in the vehicle. Causes a bunch of codes to activate and throws vehicle into "limp" mode while saying the vehicle needs to be turned off immediately. Only some vehicles received recall notice per automotive service center, but others do not even though there is plenty of complaints online about the same issue. Having a vehicle go into "limp" mode while driving in traffic and/or on highway is extremely dangerous.
I bought my car at the end of winter in 2018, and every winter, when it gets 20 degrees or below, every few weeks, my engine overheating light will come on after 10 minutes of driving it. When I look at my coolant, it is right at the minimum line every time. I have since learned to keep a bottle of coolant in my car as well as a funnel to fill it just a little. Afterward, it would drive okay. Every shop I have taken it to states there are no leaks, and it was working just fine. I've also been told that it's a common issue with the 2013 Ford Escape, and I will have to continue to fill it. This has been an issue as I have been stuck on the freeway with my 3 and 7 year old numerous times trying to get under my hood...
TRANSMISSION HAS SUDDENLY STARTED SLIPPING
The contact's daughter owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. Due to the failure, her daughter had the vehicle towed to a dealer where they diagnosed the vehicle with engine failure. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was unknown.
when i back up then turn sharp to the right it will shut off. it will crank up . but i have had this to happen 2 times. its very scary to pull out into traffic .
I purchased my 2013 Escape SE AWD (non-turbo) last January 5, 2021 at approximately 59k miles (currently at 81+k miles) and haven't had any issues (other than having to replace ALL of the defective lugnuts that swell and make it so the included tire iron that Ford provides, don't even fit them for removal after almost getting hit by a car when I couldn't get them off when trying to change a flat tire three days after taking ownership of the vehicle) until today. I do my regularly scheduled oil changes and such and I'm still about 1050 miles away from when my next oil change is due. I was driving on a non-interstate highway, going up an incline at about 45-50mph, having pulled away from a full stop at a traffic light. Suddenly, I hear a ding, and look down and the 'engine coolant low' warning comes on, then...
I have a 2013 Ford Escape with the 1.6l motor. The cup plug is leaking on my exhaust. This issue has a recall on it on vehicles manufactured from 10/5/2011 to 8/5/2012 in which mine is 7/2012 but my vin was not on the list for the recall. I don't want to drive the car for risk of fire as the recall states but it's my only vehicle.
For several years, we have been taking the car to the dealer because we continue to have to top off the reservoir with antifreeze. At our most recent service visit, we were informed that there could possibly be a crack in the engine block causing the antifreeze to leak into the engine. This is the same problem as a recall associated with the same year, make and model vehicle. The recall number is 12V431000
Vehicle started grumbling upon acceleration. No warning lights came on indicating an issue but I felt the vehicle was unsafe to drive and had it towed to the dealer. The dealer inspected the car and found that the cylinder head of the engine was cracked. The vehicle has had coolant issues repaired on multiple occasions, once over the summer when the hose exploded causing the vehicle to overheat. The crack in the engine and the lack of warning light could have caused me to drive this vehicle and it catch on fire while driving.
Upon driving with my 3 young children on a 45mph road with 0 warning or notification the car quit accelerating. upon pulling over it would not restart. I had it towed to my house. A new battery was purchased and the car seemed fine. not even a few days later the low coolant light came on and even after filling it the next day it was empty again. Then whenever i slowed down, stopped at a light or stop sign the car will not accelerate as if the gears are not engaging.the reverse doesn't work at all anymore. after making a left turn into my neighborhood the car without any warning lights or notice would not go at all and i tried to restart to get it to go and a car (that was wayyy down the rd) honked it's horn and sped by me to where my car rattled....
I have a Ford Escape 2013 1.6 engine. The engine will sputter and stall and completely die. It does this spontaneously and no warning to indicate it will. I have gone to Ford multiple times about this issue yet they say there's nothing they can do about this issue.
2013 Ford Escape Titanium 2.0L Ecoboost started making weird noises. I took it to the dealer to be looked at and now the Cylinder and turbo have to be replaced along with associated parts, due to coolant leaking into the block. Cost upwards of $6k to have it fixed. The parts alone costs almost the same as a new engine. I am blessed that it didn't seize or catch on fire before now. The backup camera is also giving me issue. I was told by the mechanic that it is also a well known problem and they have to replace a lot of Ford cameras costing about $900 to do so.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would overheat without warning. The contact had the spark plugs, engine coils, and valve cover gasket replaced on multiple occasions; however, the failure persisted. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer however, a diagnostic test was not performed. The contact was informed that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V583000 (Engine) which he linked to the failure. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure and informed him that there was no recall on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving approximately 5 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with needing the catalytic convertor to be replaced however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and the contact was awaiting a response. The failure mileage was 111,319.
Check engine light soon light appeared in the morning. When accelerating up a steep incline, the engine temperature rose to the level of overheating within ~30 seconds and displayed the pull over immediately warning. At this time the engine began to emit a burning smell The check engine light went off but when I took the vehicle to a garage the next day, they were able to pull code P26B7, related to the engine coolant bypass. There is a TSB 13-2-15 related to this issue. The vehicle has less then 38,000 miles on it
The water pump is leaking which is causing residual issues with the timing. I don't know enough about engines to know for certain how severe the safety concern is with this, but I felt negligent to not report it. The problem has been reviewed by a garage and an independent mechanic. It has not been inspected by insurance or police. The warning light only came on after the leak almost completely drained the coolant.
After warmup, engine stalls at stop. It restarts, but intermittently stalls again at stop/go or when slowing down.
The contact's cousin owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that his cousin informed him that the vehicle was overheating and leaking antifreeze after parking the vehicle. The contact, an independent mechanic, performed a pressure test and noticed there was antifreeze leaking from a hole in the cylinder head. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was made aware of the failure but did not diagnose the vehicle. The dealer gave the contact a printout of a possible failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 151,058.
We have constant issues with the coolant system and finally a mechanic said that what was wrong was actually a recalled item. There was localized overheating of the engine cylinder head which caused a crack in the head/ gasket and is allowing oil/ coolant to leak internally. We then took it to out local Ford dealership, they confirmed the problem and that it would have been covered under USANHTSA recall # 13V583000, EXCEPT that there was an "inspection" done and "no leaks were found at this time". We are questioning the inspection/ remedy since the EXACT problem stated in the recall happened.
The car just stalls while driving. Sometimes it will restart and sometimes it wont.
[XXX] October 3, 2021 at 10:09 PM I also have a 2013 Ford Escape SEL 1.6 ECO BOOST. I purchased the car is March 2018. I was permanently disabled from military service so they made me purchase a very expensive warranty and because I couldn’t work my credit had suffered while waiting on my VA and SS. That cost me 18% interest, but we had no vehicle as we had to give it back while recovering from 8 surgeries . Never missed a payment but I think I know why the bank made me pay $1800 for the warranty in cash. Less than a month both drive shafts had to be replaced. $400 out of pocket. Then Ford said I had a leak and replaced a gasket, which triggered a Ford mandated replacement of the flanged fuel line not covered by warranty. $800 out of pocket. Back up camera is...
Engine has begun to leak oil and smells like burning oil while driving. Have taken to mechanic to find the source of the leak and was told that it is coming from the engine or cylinder head, not the drain plug or oil filter as suspected since it just had an oil change. Mechanic then looked up the vehicle model on- line and informed me that his problem shouldbe covered under several recalls for this make and model. However, calling the dealer to have it serviced was informed that this particular vehicle doesn't qualify for the recall even though it is the same year/model and problem as the other ones that are covered. Am afraid to drive vehicle for fear of engine fire.
2nd day I had it temp out side was -15° in Feb. I started my car and warning lamp said low coolant service immediately not even 2 minutes it said pull over safely engine will shut down. dealership came got it said it was a coolant hose.... they lied. it was the coolant bypass valve that was malfunctioning. I got the car back and it was okay for a couple weeks then said low coolant. I've been dealing with pretty significant coolant bypass valve problem since. so I got to researching and found that there was infact a recall on my year, make and model car but yet my vin wasn't included. this is seriously going to cause me or my family serious injury if not fixed and I do not believe I should have to pay for repairs on something that's known to be faulty.
