1999 DODGE INTREPID 2.7L SLUDGE. THE ENGINE IN OUR CAR STOP WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVE IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC WITHOUT WARNING. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. VEHICLE LOST POWER AND DECELERATED TO A CRAWL. THEN, VEHICLE STALLED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE CONSUMER COULD GET HOME. EACH TIME THE VEHICLE COULD BE RESTARTED, BUT WOULD STALL AGAIN. DEALER REFUSED TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE, CLAIMING THE PROBLEM WAS NOT HIS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH ENGINE LIGHT FLICKERED. DRIVER PULLED OVER AND POPPED THE HOOD TO CHECK ENGINE AND FLUID. DRIVER SAW NO INDICATION THAT THERE WAS PROBLEM. CONSUMER PROCEEDED TO DRIVE WHEN THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND STAYED ON. THEN, ENGINE DIED, AND VEHICLE WAS TOWED. DEALER DETERMINED THAT OIL WAS NOT FLOWING FAST ENOUGH THROUGH THE ENGINE.*AK
MY 1999 INTREPID DIED IN TRAFFIC, NOT TO START AGAIN. I HAD MY 3 MONTH OLD GRANDDAUGHTER WITH ME. I HAD A VERY HARD TIME CONTROLING THE VEHICLE WITH NO POWER. THANK GOD THEY PEOPLE AROUND ME SLOWED UP AND STAYED BEHIND ME AS I TRIED TO GET IT TO THE CURB.THE MECHANIC SAID THE ENGINE BLEW AT 43,000 MILES. NOTHIN BUT SLUDGE IN IT.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY SHUT OFF. THE CONSUMER HAD TO COAST DOWN THE RAMP TO A SAFE STOP. *AK THE ENGINE WAS REBUILT. THE ENGINE EXPERIENCED OIL SLUDGE. THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW NEED TO BE FIXED BECAUSE IT WAS OFF TRACK, THE FAN IN THE RADIATOR HAD GONE OUT, THE SENSORS HAD GONE OUT, THE INSIDE LIGHTS DID NOT WORK, THE ALARM DID NOT WORK, AND THE DOOR LIGHTS DID NOT WORK. *SC THE TRANSMISSION HAD PROBLEMS HAS WELL. *JB
WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH VEHICLE STALLED. CONSUMER MANAGED TO PULL OVER, AND HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER. *AK
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER HEARD A CLICKING NOISE. CONSUMER BELIEVED IT WAS THE ENGINE. ALSO, OIL LIGHT ILLUMINATED. *AK
DODGE INTREPID 1999 ENGINE SEIZES UP WITHOUT WARNING AT 84,000 MILES DUE TO SLUDGE IN EVEN THOUGH OIL WAS CHANGED REGULARLY. *AK
VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHILE PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. THE WAS CAUSED BY TRANSMISSION FAILURE. ALSO, AT 71,000 AND WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH VEHICLE STALLED. THIS WAS CAUSED BY THE ENGINE LOCKED . TWO DAYS EARLIER, VEHICLE OVERHEATED. MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE BUT FOUND NO PROBLEM. TOLD THE CONSUMER TO ADD SOME MORE ANTI FREEZE. WHEN ENGINE LOCKED DEALERSHIP INDICATED THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE MODEL ENGINES. *AK
WE PURCHASED A USED 1999 DODGE INTREPID IN JULY 2003. IT ONLY HAD 72,000 MILES ON IT. THE PREVIOUS OWNERS SAID THEY HADN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR. I TOOK OUT A LOAN AGAINST MY 401K TO PURCHASE THE INTREPID BECAUSE MY PREVIOUS VEHICLE WAS GETTING A LOT OF MILES ON IT AND I NEEDED A RELIABLE VEHICLE TO GET ME TO WORK. WELL NOW THE ENGINE APPEARS TO BE LOCKED UP AND I DON'T EVEN HAVE THE MONEY TO GET IT CHECKED OUT AT THE DEALER. NOW I AM BACK TO MY OLD RELIABLE 1992 PONTIAC GRAND AM WITH OVER 205,000 MILES ON IT. THIS DODGE MOTOR SHOULD OF LASTED TO AT LEAST 150,000 MILES. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED. I THOUGHT THEY HAD IMPROVED THERE PRODUCTS SINCE THE 80'S. BOY WAS I WRONG.*AK

WE BOUGHT A '99 DODGE INTREPID 11/22/99 AS A PROGRAM CAR W/ABOUT 30,000 MILES ON IT. WE BOUGHT EXTENDED WARRANTY TO COVER 'SURPRISES'. ON SATURDAY, 7/19/03 THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON. WE TOOK IT IMMEDIATELY TO THE CLOSEST DEALER AND FILLED OUT THE AFTER HOURS PAPERWORK. ON MONDAY 7/21 THEY CALLED & SAID THE ENGINE WAS 'SHOT' AND THE CAUSE WAS SLUDGE. THEY SAID IT WAS CAUSED BY NOT HAVING REGULAR OIL CHANGES SO IT VOIDED OUR WARRANTY. ESTIMATE $8,000 ON A CAR WITH A BLUE BOOK VALUE IS $5,000. MILEAGE ON THIS CAR IS NOW 62,080. *AK MY HUSBAND CALLED AN ENGINE REPAIR PLACE & THEY GAVE AN ESTIMATE OF $4,500. HE SAID HE DID QUITE A LOT OF THESE DODGE/CHRYSLER PRODUCTS BECAUSE THEIR ENGINES FAIL FREQUENTLY. IN FACT THE DEALERSHIP WE HAVE OUR CAR AT HAD JUST CALLED AND GOT THE SAME $4,500 DOLLAR ESTIMATE FROM HIM FOR...
THE DRIVER'S SIDE POWER WINDOW DIDN'T GO DOWN, THE PASSENGER'S SIDE POWER WINDOW OPERATES INTERMITTENTLY. THE WINDOW MOTOR MUST BE REPLACED. *AK THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES WERE INOPERATIVE, AND DODGE NEGLECTED TO REPAIR AN OIL VALVE WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO FAIL. *SC *JB THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FENDER BENDER AFTER THE LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP, THE CONSUMER BELIEVED IT WAS DUE TO THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. *JB

THE 2.7 LITER ENGINE ON MY 1999 CHRYSLER INTREPID FAILED DUE TO EXCESSIVE SLUDGE BUILDUP. THOUGH THE OWNER'S MANUAL STATES AN OIL CHANGE INTERVAL OF 7,500 MILES, I CHANGED MINE MUCH MORE FREQUENTLY. UPON COMPLAINT TO THE MANUFACTURER, THEY REFUSED TO OFFER ANY SORT OF SETTLEMENT OR SATISFACTION OR EVEN TO DISCUSS IT FURTHER. *LA
I HAVE A 1999 CHRYSLER INTERPID WITH 82,000 MILES. THE VEHICLES HAS MAINTAINED. THE TIMING BELT BROKE WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 70MPH. I HEARD A TERRIBLE NOISE AND IMMEDIATELY PULLED OFF THE FREEWAY AND CALLED A TOWING COMPANY. THE ENGINE REPAIR SHOP REPAIRED THE TIMING BELT AND ALSO DID MAJOR CLEANING IN THE ENGINE BECAUSE OF AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF BLACK SLUDGE. INITIALLY ACCUSING ME OF NEVER CHANGING THE OIL. THE SHOP HAD THE CAR RUNNING AGAIN AND DID ONE LAST COLD START CHECKING FLUID LEVELS WHICH WERE FOUND TO BE NORMAL. MY CAR WAS THEN TAKEN ON A TEST DRIVE FIRST AT FREEWAY SPEEDS AND THEN THROUGH TOWN AND ON THE WAY BACK TO THE SHOP THE VEHICLE DIED. NO ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON PRIOR TO THE ENGINE DYING. THE CAR WAS TOWED BACK TO THE SHOP AND THE ENGINE WAS FOUND TO BE SEIZED....
45,500 MILES AND TOLD SLUDGE BUILD UP IN ENGINE. MECHANIC WANTED $6K FOR ENGINE REPLACEMENT. PAID $800 FOR NEW TENSIONS, TOLD ENGINE CAN SEIZE AT ANY TIME. HAD TO PURCHASE A NEW CAR AFTER ONLY 4 YEARS!!!!!!!!

1999 DODGE INTREPID ENGINE SEIZED AT ONLY 5600 MILES. THE DEALER SAID THAT THERE IS A SLUDGE BUILD UP IN THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I WAS TOLD FROM AT LEAST 10 DIFFERENT AUTO SHOPS THAT THE 2.7 LITER DODGE ENGINE IS POORLY MADE AND THAT THEY HAVE SEEN THIS SAME PROBLEM TIME AND TIME AGAIN. IT RUNS WAY TOO HOT AND IF YOU DON'T CHANGE THE OIL EVERY 1500 MILES OR SO, SLUDGE WILL BUILD UP IN THE ENGINE AND CAUSE SEIZURE. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS 2.7 ENGINE OR A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AGAINST DODGE.*AK

CAR STALLED ON ME A FEW DAYS AGO IN DOWNTOWN LA DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WITH MY 2 KIDS... COME TO FIND OUT THAT SUPPOSIDELY THE CAR OVERHEATED (NO SIGNS OF OVERHEATING AT ALL, GAUGES WERE ALL OKAY, AND SENSORS WERE CHECKED AND OK, NO SMOKE ETC.) HOWEVER IT OVERHEATED AND WARPED BOTH OF MY HEADS, BLEW MY GASKETS AND BROKE MY TIMING CHAIN. THIS REPAIR HAS TAKEN OVER A WEEK TO FIX AND $2700.00 DOLLARS LATER AND I AM STILL NOT THRILLED. MECHANIC INFORMED ME THE TRANSMISSION LINES WERE FACTORY INSTALLED DEFECTIVE. $582.24. 12/14/01 86,992 MILES, TIMING CHAIN BROKE, REPLACED WATER PUMP. $1,188.79. 6/14/02. 91,324 MILES, TRANSMISSION SPEED SENSOR BROKE. $350.60. 8/2/02 96,828 MILES, DASH LIGHTS WENT OUT. MECHANIC INFORMED ME THE DASH LIGHTS WERE AN INTERNAL WIRING DEFECT. $223.30. 10/2/02 98,003 MILES, COOLING FAN WENT OUT. MECHANIC INFORMED ME THIS WAS A FACTORY DEFECT. CHRYSLER HAD CHANGED THE DESIGN OF THE FANS SO I COULD NOT JUST REPAIR ONE SIDE OF THE FAN SINCE IT WAS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. $680.35. 10/24/02. 109,754 MILES, ENGINE BLEW, TAKING STARTER WITH IT. TOLD BY MECHANIC THAT CHRYSLER DESIGNED THE 2.7 ENGINE TO BE A DISPOSABLE ENGINE (COMPARED TO THE 3.2 THAT YEAR). REPLACED WITH USED ENGINE. $4174.49. 5/21/03 I HAD OVER $7000...
