The fuel pump would run all night and going down the road the van would cut off...had it checked the tipm was bad
My van tipm went out..it would cut off going down the road the safety door locks was not working the fuel pump was running all the time with switch off
While driving, the vehicle will periodically shut down/lose all power. This appears to occur when a slight bump in the road occurs. The loss of power to the vehicle is obviously a significant safety issue. We have been able to restart it when switching to neutral and turning the key; however, this obviously isn't a safe solution while traveling down the highway with no power to the vehicle. This has occurred multiple times at varying speeds (30-70 mph) over the last few years - I am reporting it now as I was assuming/anticipating there would be a recall on this safety issue.
CAR STALLS UNEXPECTEDLY WITH NO WARNING OR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. INTERMITTENT OCCURRENCES. SOMETIMES INTERIOR LIGHTS STAY ON, SOMETIMES NOT. CAN USUALLY GET CAR RESTARTED RIGHT AWAY BUT NOT ALWAYS. HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR AWHILE. NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL DO IT. HAS DONE IT AT ALL SPEEDS, WHILE PARKED AND WHILE IDLING. HAVE HAD BATTERY REPLACED AS WELL AS STARTER. SUSPECT WIN MODULE. SEE BELOW - APPROXIMATE DATE IS UNKNOWN. HAS BEEN DOING IT FOR SO LONG WE DON'T REMEMBER.
The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, unoccupied, and turned off at the residence, she noticed that sparks and flames were coming from the overhead console. The flames then spread to the front driver's and passenger's side seats. The contact did not sustain any injuries. The fire department arrived and extinguished the fire. The fire department filed a report, which determined that the fire was caused by an electrical wiring failure. The vehicle remained at the residence. The insurance company was not made aware of the fire. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 183,000.
While driving engine was cutting out, stalling, hard to restart. Found the reason was thr TIPM. Found there was a safety recall R09 / NHTSA 15V-115 fuel pump Relay, however this was for other Fiat Chrysler models and not the Dodge Grand Caravan, please help me understand why? The TIPM within this caravan is the same TIPM installed is other Fiat Chrysler models and clearly the same danger concerns. I don't believe I need to tell the NHTSA how scary it was to be driving 65 on a freeway when this occurred putting my life and others around me in danger of possibly losing control of a vehicle. On my Grand Caravan the engine randomly dies when my headlights are on bright. I haven't been able to find the problem. I have read where others are having the same problem but not sure they have associated the problem to the high beam lights. Last year when the dealership supposedly did the T33 recall it stopped doing it for two months then started happening again. It only happens with my high beams. The dangers are that, unable to use my high beams, I may not see wildlife running out into the road on dark highways until it is too late. Also, if this happens in traffic, especially in turns or curves, there is temporary loss in propulsion, power steering, power brakes, etc. I believe this to be a widespread problem that most haven't associated with the headlights. I bought the car 2 weeks ago with 105k miles on it. The car has died approximately 20 times in the last 2 weeks while I am driving it. It is so insanely dangerous, you will be going down a busy street and the car completely dies without warning. There is no dash lights on, no warning. The power steering goes. It's an accident waiting to happen, it’s unacceptable. After spending 2k at the mechanic and still the same problem. They have now told me I need the TIPM replaced at the dealership. Which also affects the lights, which are erratic, they come on or come off when they want, along with the horn. Van shuts off completely when driving., all lights go off… rolling the car when possible I shift to neutral then I start the ignition and works fine. But lately is more often. My wife picks grand kids from school ., she is afraid an accident may happen. I see this problem on the internet specially at the caravan club. Why this problem is not tackled? Thanks. While driving on freeway or highway, electrical system fails, causing engine shutdown, and power steering and braking system fails to respond without excessive effort and delayed response. ALSO have had intermittent electrical failure while maneuvering vehicle at moderate to slow speeds or while steering around corners or turning into driveways. Touching or inadvertent bumping against ignition switch or rattling of keys on key ring can also cause electrical and dashboard electrical intermittent off/on/off in rapid succession. While driving in heavy traffic on freeway, almost wrecked car when electrical failure occurs during high speed travel and extreme effort to maneuver vehicle safely in heavy freeway traffic making effort to pull over safely a high-risk task. The van has COMPLETELY lost power on multiple occasions WHILE driving. Everything shuts down: engine, dash, everything. No error codes, so mechanic can’t pinpoint. Very dangerous. Someone is going to die.
The fuel relay switch is faulty and causing fuel pump to stay on draining the battery. This is a known problem and has been recalled on several other models. It causes my vehicle to continue to lose power due to electrical surge.
The car SHUTS OFF while DRIVING NO MATTER THE SPEED!!! The vehicle also pops out of gear when it shuts off. You have to use the emergency release button to change the gear to put it in park to try to start it again, which usually takes a little while to get it started. The safety hazard could be FATAL to the driver and whomever may rear-end the vehicle due it shutting off and loosing power steering and the brakes. This vehicle is currently at the dealership for the second time. They say that they cannot find the problem. I looked online for fixes and found HUNDREDS of complaints of the same issue for this same vehicle with no fix due to everyone being told they cannot find the problem. This could be FATAL!
TPIM is going on it causing fault codes that won't clear causing to fail inspection. Chrysler Dodge has known about defective TPIM for years and chose not to do anything about it.
Rear door won't engage or open seems to be electrical, then once figured out. The vehicle wldnt run, had a new battery put in, then it acted like the fuel pump, but the fuel pump kicks in the alternator was replaced as the fuel pump a year ago. Then we bypassed the regulator and now thr is nothing in the entire van works intact when u try put the charger on it, which the battery indicator says fully charged the whole fuel box vibrates and shakes. I would like the fuel pump relay recalled because it is unsafe and the Jeep Cherokee and Charger have the exact same TIPM with the same exact fuel pump relay and they both have recalls on the the exact same part.
I guess started with noticing oil being used at a faster pace then normal then a decent tick began along with AbS light which prevented cruise control from working. At this point We seemed Professional advice from a licensed Mechanic who then preformed a small job of dropping transmission pan to clean metal shavings out! And replacing tires and brake pads assured us routers were fine. He was concerned with the fact that the abs light continued to be on so we the paid to get wiring for abs redone (not sure what was called). 2017 I purchased my car. I had several problems with the key lock and car starting. Immediately tried to return the car but dealer wouldn’t allow it. I have now found out there were 2 recalls in 2017 I was not aware of this until now. Even though dodge has stated to me they were fixed as a consumer if my car was presenting issues so early on after these recalls I should have had a grace period to give the vehicle back if other issues were presented. I am experiencing an issue with the Totally Integrated Power Module TIPM. That can not be repaired by a local auto mechanic professional service. This appears to be a chronic issue with this vehicle make and model. In the 2011 this issue has been deemed a recall, yet the 2012, despite having the same engine, has not been deemed a recall. This needs to be addressed. Furthermore, the Dodge Caravan is one that is most frequently converted for wheelchair drivers and passengers. This is my case as well. I would like to commend Dodge for manufacturing vehicles that can be modified, and I would also like to implore that they be well supported in providing the safest most mechanically sound vehicle possible which also includes notifying and elevating problems to RECALL status so that wheelchair users can seek needed repairs before being stranded on the side of the road. I was driving on a side street fortunately instead of the interstate each of the times that the car died! All of the dash lights came on and it just stopped running. I called for service and the tow driver checked the battery and it was fine, but but would not start or jump. Had it towed to the mechanic. A new battery was put on and it ran for a couple of days then died again. It would not jump so towed back to mechanic. Mechanic said they charged the battery, got it started said they ran diagnostics finding no issues. the next day it died again and would not jump. My Dodge Grand caravan is having ignition issues and will randomly turn off while driving or just parked/sitting.
The TIPM has a built in fuel relay switch which fails sometimes won't allow vehicle to start other times it and stall while driving twice in one trip my vehicle stalled on the highway loss of all power and engine completely shuts off with no power steering or brake assist very scary and wreckless was very fortunate to have avoid multiple accidents the is already a recall associated with this issue on the Dodge Durango and Jeep Cherokee but for some reason the Doge Grand Caravan was left off and it posses a huge safety risk for the people and families that are driving them!
While driving, van completely shut down. This has happened twice now. No power brakes no power steering. Unable to restart. coasted to side of the road in one case and to a parking lot on another instance. It is currently at the dealer for repair for the second time. Battery replaced the first time. While engine would not start all accessories worked. Nothing found wrong. This time they picked up dead van. couldn't run diagnostics they said. Suspect win module, ($900 repair) not sure though. It has resurrected itself and now runs but once again they find nothing wrong. They said win module is a guess. Going to drive it with a computer on to see if they can find anything. 900 is a lot for a guess. have seen several complaints on line for this issue and similar complaints recalled on other dodges.
My Dodge Grand caravan is having ignition issues and will randomly die while driving or just sitting. It has happened on the highway going 70mph. It is very dangerous as I lose all power until I would flip the ignition off and then back on. I have looked and found the recall on other vans but it is not listed under my VIN. 2012 caravan staling/dyng while driving, at take off from stops n issues starting with it just dying time after time over n over. Getting codes for low input power for the system n tcm plus misfire codes n O2 sensor code. Had new battery n both battery n alternator check out perfect. All new fuses n relays n CB1. Changed Oil, filter n housing n spark plugs twice, all new O2 sensors n new ignition coils. New starter. Got new key fob n ignition key as well. Still same issues with no starts, difficult starts, stalling n dying while driving months later
Engine shuts off while driving down expressway and randomly just shuts off. Very dangerous and someone is going to get killed. Dodge/Chrysler needs to do sometime about this.
Vehicle just shutting off randomly while driving. No light came on , engine just stopped. Total safety issue when in busy traffic. Other years of same models have been recalled, but not 2012 dodge caravan. The problem was wireless control module that was very costly, but it could have been more costly if an accident occurred. Please look into this problem. From what I have seen on line, this has been a problem for many dodge customers.
The TIPM unit is causing issues for my wife and kids there is a recall on other models with the same part that is causing issues why wouldn’t it be a safety issue for this model as well if it can cause the same safety concern

While driving 55 MPH on the highway all the lights on the dashboard began flashing and the vehicle lost ALL power - No power steering, no brakes, no engine, nothing. Luckily I was going uphill in the mountains without any traffic and was able to eventually stop. Had there been a vehicle behind me, the results could have been fatal. The vehicle was towed to a nearby trusted shop. They are saying it needs a whole new engine. The problem is, even with a replacement engine, this could happen again with a new/rebuilt Chrysler/Dodge engine. Keep reading please. The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, several times, air bag, ABS, and battery warning lights illuminated before the vehicle stalled. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle operated normally for a while before the failure recurred. This keeps recurring in spite of changing alternator and battery twice in two months. Mechanics including an auto-electric technician from Northern Virginia were not able to pinpoint the exact cause. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage started at 143,000.
It refuses to start. Light comes on the dash for the throttle body and when fuses were tested it was found that the TIPMs power cuts out. Which led to a research and found online that a recall on that exact issue/part was for certain 2011-2012 models. I called my local dodge dealership and was told that my van didn't fall under that recall because it was VIN specific. If my 2012 Dodge grand caravan is having those issues, why is it not under the recall. This car is my main transportation for myself and my family. I have 5 school aged kids that rely on this vehicle for transportation everyday. I NEED this to be taken care of as soon as possible, please.
The car shutoff on me while I was driving home. It shut off on the bridge while I was driving home and wouldn't start for 30minutes. It finally started up and I made it home but the next morning it wouldn't start up at all. I got it jumped and took it to midas and they checked everything and said it is a computer issue. I called dodge d they told me $180 just to look at it. I see all these comments about the same issue and I don't understand why there is not a recall for this problem!!!
I was driving and the vehicle stalled out. Could have been hit if someone was right behind me. At first the car would keep turning over trying to start and it would after awhile, then lead to going out to the car and the battery completely drained. I had to replace a whole battery and alternator and it is still draining the battery (fuel pump rely). I don't see why there hasn't been a recall to fix this with as many complaints as there are online.
My wife and I have a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan, my wife drives the car on a daily basis school runs, etc with our 4 kids. While driving the kids to school and stopped at a red light the vehicle suddenly with no warning lost all power and shutdown. My wife said she was able to restart it again right away, then just before she got home the car suddenly and again no warning shut down everything no power whatsoever she was unable to remove the key from the ignition. Bought the van and with in 2 Days just driving an it cuts off, No warning Nothing, Can click back on at any time...Engine reeves up sounds like it's gonna blow up.. You have to either put it in Neutral or pull off the road and turn it off and it will crank right back up... It does this at any given time.. OUR DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WAS STATIONARY AND EXPERIENCED INTERMITTENT STARTING PROBLEMS OVER A PERIOD OF MONTHS AND SOMETIMES WHEN IT DID START, IT WOULD STALL SHORTLY AFTER STARTING WHILE IN MOTION. FINALLY, IT WOULD NOT START AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS, WAITING ARE TRYING AGAIN. WE HAD IT TOWED TO OUR MECHANIC WHO TESTED IT AND FOUND THAT IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP RELAY. HE SAID IT WAS COMMON TO MAY DODGE AND JEEP MODELS. THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME CIRCUIT BOARD. HE RECOMMENDED TAKING IT TO A DEALER FOR REPAIRS EVEN THOUGH IT HAD NOT YET BEEN RECALLED. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THEY HAD THE PARTS FOR THE FIX AND FIXED THE FUEL PUMP RELAY PROBLEM. THE REPAIR HAS A 2 YEAR WARRANTY. AN EMPLOYEE OF DEALER EXPRESSED THAT IT MAY BE 3 MONTHS FROM THE OCTOBER 8, 2020 REPAIR, BUT EVENTUALLY CHRYSLER WOULD ISSUE A RECALL SINCE SO MANY MODELS...
KEY FOBS NO LONGER WORK EVEN AFTER BATTERIES HAVE BEEN CHANGED
WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF ON ITS OWN AND THEN RESTART.THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. I WAS GOING 65MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND IT JUST SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED. THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME WHEN THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE IT COULD HAVE COST US OUR LIFE. I ALSO AM HAVING ISSUES WITH MY SLIDING DOORS. BOUGHT THIS 2012 DODGE CARAVAN 1 MONTH AGO. LAST WEEK IT STALLED TWICE MID DRIVING, ONCE WHILE SLOWING DOWN NEARING A STOP LIGHT AND ONCE WHILE DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEEDS. LUCKY I WAS ABLE TO FIND A LARGE ENOUGH SHOULDER TO PULL OVER ON AND NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. LOOKS LIKE THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE, WONDERING WHAT WE CAN DO TO FIX IT/SHOULD THIS BE RECALLED BEFORE LIVES ARE PUT AT RISK? NOT MUCH CONFIDENCE IN OUR NEW VEHICLE.
VAN HAS FAILED TO TURN ON MULTIPLE TIMES, PARK TURN OFF VEHICLE AND IN AS LITTLE AS 10 MINUTES LATER IT WOULD NOT START. I REPLACED ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY APPARENTLY AFTER GOING TO MULTIPLE MECHANICS THAT DIDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM WITH DIAGNOSTICS I FOUND OUT IT WAS NEITHER IT WAS A FAULTY TIPM. 6-8 MONTHS LATER STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH THE CAR STALLING OUT AND HAVING AN ISSUE TURNING BACK ON. I HAVE STALLED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS ON THE FREEWAY I HAVE CONTACTED DODGE AND THE RECALL IS NOT FOR MY YEAR OF VEHICLE. PARTS FOR THIS ARE EXPENSIVE ALONG WITH LABOR. DODGE NEEDS TO RECALL THIS ISSUE BECAUSE THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED TO ME I WAS DRIVING 60 MPH ON THE FREEWAY CAR BEHIND ME WAS CLOSE AND MY VAN STALLED COULD OF GOT HURT OR KILLED AND SO COULD THE OTHER DRIVER. EVERYTHING ELSE POWERS UP, RADIO, WIPERS, LIGHTS ETC. THE BATTERY IS NEW AND THE ALTERNATOR IS GOOD. DEALERSHIP INSTALLED A NEW TIPM AND THE CAR STARTED FOR 1 WEEK AND DIED AGAIN. I'LL NEVER BUY AN AMERICAN MADE VEHICLE AGAIN. OWNED THE VAN FOR 1 MONTH AND PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED 5 OR 6 TIMES PREVIOUS TO THE LAST TWO TIMES WHEN THE VAN WOULDN'T START AT ALL.
