2017 CHRYSLER PACIFICA Electrical System Problems

As I am driving down the street in the middle of traffic the van will cut off and all wheels will lock , I buy a new battery and wires and it continues to happen, not able to drive the expressway scared of causing an accident. The dash will start blinking and the electric will start flashing radio shuts down and the whole car is down for a few minutes like it need to reset.

I purchased my 2017 in 2023. Within a few months, problems began. When we brought the van back to the Chrysler dealer to have it checked with their OBD2 code reader, multiple codes pulled up… First thing “needing” to be replaced was the hood sensor because the display said the hood was open (even though I was simply stopped at a red light). The auto start/stop light was also coming on and staying on. The dealer said that would go away after replacing the sensor. That repair was done (I believe) in April of 2024 at the Chrysler dealer (and the auto start/stop light came back on a week later, both batteries testing fine independently of one another). Next thing “needing” to be replaced was the accelerator pedal module because my van would start shaking, not accelerate, and go into (what I now know is) limp mode with all warning...

Passenger sliding door fell off

The touch screen radio screen has blacked out in some sections making it difficult to use the backup camera.

Occasionally when we start the van the shifter lights don’t go on and while the he engine starts, the shifter won’t move so we are stuck. It can be a few minutes up to 30 minutes We tried to replace the batteries and the shifter. It was fine for a few weeks after but continues to be intermittent after that few weeks. Also sometimes only some of the shifter lights go one and several alarms go off on the consel including fcw unavailable and service shifter. I am concerned one day we will be stranded.

The screen stopped working I couldn’t see the backup camera and the radio wasn’t working and I haven’t been able to open the door or unlock the door. I went and replaced batteries in the remote at dealership and it still does it from time to time. And the screen has gone black several times. I haven’t touched anything to cause it. I had to turn the van off and back on again 2 times before I could get it to work again.

While I am driving the vehicle will shut completely off without warning. I have to pull to the side of the road and restart the vehicle.

I was pulling into a parking lot and had my foot on the gas. The gas pedal suddenly stopped allowing me to accelerate. The dashboard read "place car in park" I lost power of the vehicle. I was able to pull safely into a parking space and then I put the van in park and turned it off. I started it up and it started without issue. This was a very scary situation as I almost hit a shopping cart where I was forced to pull in as I had no power and was coasting in a parking lot full of cars.

This vehicle’s UConnect “infotainment” system began to malfunction after only 20,000 miles or so. At first it was only intermittent resets but they progressed over the last two years or so until now it is constantly auto-selecting every feature in the system while driving. I have experienced random selection of the heating/cooling system, auto parking brake, random nav selections, radio/audio changes, display units, language, seat heater, and more. Basically every selection available through the touchscreen it does randomly while driving. It is hugely distracting and even uncomfortable. I have had it in twice seeking a fix but the dealer seems unable to address it.

My vehicle now 3 times just stops on me luckily 2 of the 3 times i was going maybe 10 mph. only once i was going 35 and it just slams shut i am being told they are no active recalls however this is a problem and going to cause an accident when this happens my drive light on the dash is flashing as well as on the knob to put it in to drive. this is just one of the many problems with the vehicle the transmission constantly jerks you around. the sliding doors have a mind of their own. i am a single mom of 4 and i purchased this car almost bran new and i only have 3000 left to pay on it and i can barely drive it i dont even like going around my neighborhood in the vehicle for fear it will just stop. it...

UNKNOWN while driving, the electrical system seemed to malfunction causing the lights to flash on/off, the rear windshield wiper to activate, the horn was blaring (quick repeated beeps, with occasional blaring), the dash indicated that the parking brake could not be used, indicated that the airbag system was not working, indicated that the driver’s side seatbelt was not connected, amongst other warnings that I cannot recall. The vehicle was diagnosed with a short in the electrical steering cable. It started off with just a minor glitch when steering which caused the car to simply caused the car to shift into neutral but was quickly resolved by shifting the gear into park and then into drive. This resulted in a really major glitching in system while steering to where the car was shifted into neutral in the middle of driving and will not turn off the van or allow you to shift the vehicle into park. It also caused the windshield wipers to stay on without the ability to turn them off as well. From the date of purchase, the check engine light came on and was told it was a software/computer issue. 3 months into having the car it stalled on the freeway. ABS light came on, and engine repair, and several other lights. I was told it was the two batteries, the AUX and the car battery. Replaced both at the dealer. A year and a half later, the car stalled again pulling out of my garage. A-light with circle and exclamation point came on. Turned car off and the A light turned off. Now engine light comes on and off whenever. Had it looked at and it is showing a repair for fuel line kit, which was repaired last year and mechanic said it does not need to be repaired, another software/computer error. Engine light will stay on for a day and turn off for a week, then turn back on...

Electrical problems since purchase (new). Warranty repairs by 2 dealers. The rear lift warning buzzer went out causing me to be hit in the head and getting black eye. The buzzer is out again, but not repaired as the part has been on back order for months. Dealer said over 100 of the same part by various dealers on the back order. This is a major problem as car purchased for use with my dogs and w/o buzzer they also are not warned when ‘door’ coming down. For the part to not be available for so long is unacceptable and since covered under paid warranty I think Chrysler is neglecting the warranty owners. Also, since the part has failed before, they are aware it’s a faulty part but have not done anything to keep the part stocked,

While driving vehicle, car shifted to neutral then park then neutral, while in drive moving down road. Numerous warning came on including "service shifter", check engine, front end collision sensor, abs brake sensor, along with a message to put car in park before shifting . The day before a warning of service shifter came on and the car was unable for a few minutes to shift out of park. Then the codes suddenly went off. Took it to auto zone to check codes and it said no codes were found or stored. First time was September 25, 2023. The next time when it shifted itself out of drive while driving was September 28. Powertrain Stalls randomly when moving from first to second gear and when changing in and out of park. Vehicle also has loss of power and freezing electronics. The entertainment system and navigation system may stay frozen until vehicle is restarted and in some cases may not turn off even while vehicle is not in a powered state.

Continue issue with stop/start system failure that drains batteries to the point of total power loss, even at high rate of speed. An audible ticking sound, engine misfires resulting in bucking and surging, decreased engine performance, hesitation, loss of power. Start/stop system has been investigated by dealership multiple times. Power loss and engine misfire were reported as the result of the start/stop system failure. However it has been a reoccurring problem with continued worsening symptoms. The safety of myself, my passengers and other travelers is at risk due to the unexpected bucking, surging, hesitation and power loss that occurs during traveling. While driving, the car malfunctions stating to have the shifter serviced. All of the alerts start going off and it feels like my car isnt shifting properly. Some times when I start it, the shifter will not respond. I have taken it to be serviced and it seems to be electrical.

Computer Code P258B - Electric Vacuum Pump - After fixing code P000B with an oil change, the P258B code caused the check engine light to come back on and after further investigation found that the wire that comes from the pump looks like it has started melting. The external wiring casing is no longer covering the wires and the piece plugged into the pump looks like its splitting. I finally found the part through the Mopar site but is referred to as an Air Pump: Product ID: 68274999AD. Luckily the car has not stalled or caught on fire. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance reps, or others. I plan on ordering the part to install myself as personal funds don't allow me the luxury of taking to the dealer to have this done. I will keep the part if the manufacturer wants it to inspect.

The vehicle sometimes abruptly shuts off when it is stopped while running such as at a traffic light. It also abruptly shuts off when at a low speeds (0-5 mph). This occurs after the car has been operating for several minutes. This presents a safety hazard because the unexpected shut off can occur when the car in a precarious traffic situation. A quick message flashes on the display before the shut off. Usually too quick to read but seems to say something like, “service electronics”. Occurs at at least once a week. Car is driven 7 to 10 times per week so this incident occurs at least once out of every 10 trips. These incidents have been occurring for at least 2 months.

Battery light comes on, power steering goes out, start/stop function switches in and out of accessory mode, then total power drain and vehicle will not turn over or maintain a charge. vehicle is available for inspection. safety was compromised by lack of control of steering and vehicle shutdown in a roadway. issue has not been reproduced by independent services or dealer or other representatives. battery light appeared, etcs light came on, voltage meter drained very quickly until total loss of power.

All the warning lights on dashboard light up engine losses power then stop, after setting for two hours the engine restarts, the engine light is only light on. Drive for one or two days light goes off like nothings wrong. Then two or three day’s latter it will do it again. This has been going on for about five months and dealer can not fix it.

Check engine light continues to come on and it gives the code “3rd cylinder misfire” even after multiple attempts to correct the problem. Has been determined there may be a crack in the engine block. Car only has 94,000 miles on it so this is too young for it to be happening. The engine runs rough continuously and I am afraid for the safety of myself and my 4 children that ride along with me daily.

The vehicle has had constant electrical issues. The car freaks out at sporadic times. This can include power cutting in and out while driving, suddenly being unable to put into gear, or unable to start the vehicle at all. Symptoms include tactometer and speedometer simultaneously going up all the way and down over and over again, engine slowing down and starting. Lights on the shifter flashing (this was replaced). A Dealer service rep saw it when I drove in, but was unable to mimic it since it happens so sporadically - they had never seen it before and eventually said, "We don't know what to do."

At least once a week, the rear camera stays on when I put the car from reverse into drive. I will be driving forward and can see the rear of the vehicle through the camera system on the radio for a minimum of 5 seconds. This happens randomly with no associated pattern. I just saw it was an issue for the 2018 model, and I am telling you it is an issue on the 2017 model too. MY vehicle fails to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rearview Mirrors."

While driving on the highway, our car started to make a jerk, like it was having trouble shifting gears, which is weird because we were driving through Kansas and the road was smooth and flat. Then suddenly the car lost power, but did not turn off. Pressing the accelerator did nothing. We turned on the emergency flashers and pulled over to the shoulder, shifted into park and then turned the car off. We waited a few moments then restarted, everything appeared fine. The van stalls and completely turns off while coming to a stop, while stopped, and while accelerating from a stopped position. I have to wait a few seconds, then push the brake and the ignition switch to restart the van. The van acts as if it's been parked. This has happened 6 times in the last four days.

As soon as I stopped at a light, the entire car shut off on its own. No lights, no engine. It took about 45 seconds for lights to come back on. I was able to restart the car. When restarted, the electronic throttle indicator light was on and the car was jerky to drive. I cut the car back off and on and it drove normally. The engine has cut off 3 other times stopped at red lights, but those times, the lights stayed on. I was able to immediately turn the engine back on. I believe there is a major electrical issue happening. I have taken the car to a dealership and an independent mechanic. No one can find out what is wrong because they couldn’t mimic the problem.

I was stopped at an intersection & the transmission lights went out, the knob froze & the car would not move. I was stuck there for 45 minutes before it decided to start & go into gear. I was stopped at a light and the car flashed all its lights and shifted me into park. After it started right back up but the check engine light came on and stayed on. It did this another two times as well and is very dangerous for me driving with my kids. prior to this issue I had to replace shutter and head gasket (Coolant leak). This car has so far cost 6K in repairs.

For MANY years we've struggled with hard shifting by transmission. When brought to dealer, they couldn't find anything wrong. We also complained about a continuous ticking sound from dashboard when vehicle was turned off. It lasts for several minutes. We are now experiencing brake pedal issues where brake pedal fights against the foot when trying to push it down...and uncalled for instances of windows auto lowering. Only now am I learning that there have been several recalls for these items and we've never been informed. When looking up our VIN for recalls, the site say we have "0" unfixed recall items, even though we've never been informed of the recalls.

Vehicle will stall unexpectedly while driving

I purchased 2017 Chrysler Pacifica in 2021, I started having issues my vehicle after my 30 day warranty expired it seemed on and off at times now more noticealbe the START/STOP feature failed to work properly. The vehicle stalled when the brake pedal was released I had to restart the vehicle. The contact disabled the START/STOP feature. Additionally, while driving at night in the rain the vehicle acted up or started to blow hot air from the AC unit at 75 degrees with out the option to change it only way to restart was to turn on and off the vehicle. I also had problems with the coolant being low, and coolant was added. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the check engine and coolant lights were illuminated. The battery was faulty, and the START/STOP feature was inoperable. Losing power like the vehicle is in limp mode. Flashes the “service lights” for multiple things including shifter, airbags, breaking system, etc. it has set the park break while in motion as well. When a computer is attached is brings up can c bus codes and implausible assisted driving codes. Also will not go into reverse when this is happening. Sometimes the shifter doesn’t work either.

The electronics system experiences issues while driving. Particularly, the passenger front window rolls itself down at random intervals while driving. This can happen several times during a drive.These incidents at times are accompanied by a flickering of the dashboard display and a message that says to service the electronics system. The window is also often difficult to roll up as it engages the bounce back feature multiple times. The incidents have occurred at multiple driving speeds above 30mph. These incidents cause a major distraction while driving because of their unexpected and abrupt nature. The abrupt sound distraction from wind while the window is open also distracts the driver from focusing on driving. As a result, this malfunction is unsafe.

We keep receiving a service shifter error. We have taken it to the dealership 4 times. When the error comes up we are not able to change the gears. After a while, it starts to work normally again. Now as we drive it we get a bunch of error codes and it is hard to press down on the gas. Today when my husband put it in reverse the car did not move.

The steering wheel is consistently sticking. I have had tires replaced alignments done the rack check however the problem persists. The steering sticking can cause my vehicle to enter oncoming traffic if it sticks to ard and i jerk it it could also cause an accident. There is currently no recalls in affect for my vehicle. It has been inspected by 3 independent shops. No warning lights or other problems have been noticed.

The contact stated that after operating the rear power sliding doors to open, she then depressed the button to close the rear power sliding doors; however, as the contact's relative was entering the vehicle in between the power rear sliding door closing, the sliding doors failed to stop when the contact depressed the OPEN/CLOSE button to stop the doors from closing. As a result, the sliding power door continued to close shut on the relative’s right calf, requiring medical attention. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The electrical interface components stopped working spontaneously; the speedometer and RPM gauge dropped to zero, the windshield wipers turned on, and all of the "check engine" type warning lights lit up on the dash (check engine, seatbelt, airbag, battery, etc). Car was serviced for a gas leak at a Chrysler Dealership the previous day. The next morning, I was driving at a low speed (<20 mph) when an error message appeared "Car must be in P (park) to place in drive." I switched to P and tried to restart the engine. It turned over several times but never restarted. A police officer had to manually disengage the transmission and emergency brake to put the car in neutral and roll it to a turn lane (rather than in heavy traffic). The car was towed to a dealership and is still being diagnosed. We had no driving issues prior to the car stalling this morning, even with the previous gas leak mentioned above.

While turning to the intersection the van stop suddenly. On the dashboard there's a flashing "shift to P to start" message. There were no signs and warnings before it happened and there were no symptoms as well. This incident is very scary especially my three kids are with me as I just picked them up from the school. It also cause traffic in the intersection and frustration from the other drivers because everyone was accelerating and had to make a sudden stop. I believe that this is an electrical problem and it is a total safety hazard. It could be a major accident if this happen while driving in the freeway. Now I am scared to drive this van and very worried for the safety of my family.
