TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO REMOVE THE SPARE TIRE FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, THE SPARE TIRE FAILED TO MOVE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT HAD TO FRACTURE THE WIRE CABLE THAT HELD THE TIRE IN PLACE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000.

I HAVE A 2010 CHEVROLET 1500 PICKUP TRUCK AND AFTER RETURNING FROM LUNCH NOTICED THE SPARE TIRE HANGING LOOSELY ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE TRUCK BED. AFTER TRYING TO USE THE JACK HANDLE TO TIGHTEN IT BACK UP WHICH FAILED I LOWERED THE TIRE VIA THE JACK HANDLE AND PROCEEDED TO VIEW THE HOIST. THE HOIST IS HELD UP BY A SINGLE BOLT TO THE UNDERCARRIAGE. I REMOVED THE BOLT AND FOUND THAT THE METAL SURROUNDING THE BOLT HAD SEVERAL STRESS CRACKS AND 2 NEW FRACTURES. I REMOVED THE UNIT AND HAVE IT CURRENTLY. I CALLED A DEALER AND ASKED IF THEY HAD ANY ISSUES WITH THE HOIST AND THEY SAID THEY HAD NOT BUT A COUPLE OF PEOPLE HAD LOST THEIR SPARE TIRES. I TOOK THE UNIT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID NO BULLETINS WERE OUT ON THIS ISSUE AND COULD NOT HELP ME. I THINK GM HAS...
