Bulletin Summary
Altec discovered that one of the fasteners used to attach the rear shear plate on the subbase of the unit to the chassis can contact the chassis suspension U-bolt. The fastener can be a HuckBolt or a hex bolt and nut. Movement of the U-bolt can possibly cause damage to the HuckBolt or hex bolt and nut resulting in the fastener being broken off. Altec requires the customer to perform an inspection of the rear shear plates on both sides of the subbase to determine if HuckBolts or hex bolts and nuts were installed and if there is interference with the U-bolts. The inspection procedure included in the SIL should be completed no later than 90 days after the receipt of the SIL.
About Technical Service Bulletins
A Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) is a document issued by a vehicle manufacturer to its dealers, describing a known issue with a specific vehicle or set of vehicles and the recommended procedure to fix it. Unlike recalls, TSBs are not mandatory and are typically only performed if an owner reports the related issue. However, TSBs can be an indicator of common problems with a vehicle.
