NHTSA Complaint #11652372 — 2018 FORD F-150

The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the vehicle was idling rough and there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the vehicle. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where an oil consumption test was performed. The contact returned the vehicle to the dealer, and it was determined that the engine had consumed over 3 quarts of oil during the test period. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the dealer advised that it was a known failure of the 2nd generation 5.0-liter engines. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000.
