NHTSA Complaint #11605921 — 2016 HONDA PILOT

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, an abnormal sound was coming from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, who diagnosed the vehicle with a defective rod bearing. The contact stated that as a result of the failure, the crankshaft failed to rotate correctly, and the engine failed. The contact was advised that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: 23-097 (2016–19 Multi-Model Connecting Rod Bearing Stop Sale); however, the vehicle was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 147,000.
