NHTSA Complaint #11587830 — 2014 HYUNDAI ACCENT

The contact owned a 2014 Hyundai Accent. The contact received notification of the NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V651000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic), however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 70 MPH, other drivers motioned for the contact to pull over, however, the brakes became inoperable. The emergency brake was used to stop the vehicle and the front tires popped. The contact stated that the vehicle caught on fire and observed fire coming from the hood. The Fire department was called and extinguished the fire. There was no fire department report filed. The police department declined to file a report, however, there was an incident report filed. No injuries were sustained. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was later towed to a junkyard where it was diagnosed as a total loss. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened.
