Consumer Description

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED A MESSAGE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, INDICATING "REDUCING POWER DUE TO OVERHEATING" AND ANOTHER UNKNOWN MESSAGE APPEARED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE DID NOT SHOW THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OVERHEATING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PARK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE ANY OIL DUE TO A LEAK. THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V209000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,148.
