Consumer Description

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED AND THE SERVICE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT NOTICED GRAY SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONTACT SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART IT, BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE AND IT IGNITED IN FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND COULD NOT DETERMINE HOW IT STARTED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO GREEN FORD (3800 W WENDOVER AVE, GREENSBORO, NC 27407) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TOO BURNT TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS UNAWARE THAT THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V209000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING).
