Consumer Description

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT PREVIOUSLY RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17S090000 (ENGINE). THE PARTS TO DO THE REPAIR WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. WHILE DRIVING AT UNKNOWN SPEEDS, THE CONTACT NOTICED AN ABNORMAL BURNING ODOR AND SMOKE APPEARED UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE. THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE AND ENGINE SERVICE INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES DUE TO THE FIRE AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS PRESENT DURING THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE CONTACT CALLED APPLE FORD (8800 STANFORD BLVD, COLUMBIA, MD 21045) AND WAS ADVISED TO CALL THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED.
