Consumer Description

200 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. 98000 MILES ENGINE SURGES ON START AND WHEN IDLING. SURGE RISES TO 2500 RPM FALLS TO 1500, RISES TO 2000 ETC UNTIL IT REACHES 700 RPM NORMAL IDLE. WHEN IN OPERATION THE SURGE OCCURS AND WOULD MOVE THE CAR FORWARD IF BRAKES ARE NOT APPLIED. SURGE CAN ALSO BE FELT WHEN DECELERATING AND BRAKING. INTERMITTENT BUT PERSISTENT PROBLEM FOR START UP AND OPERATION. DOES NOT OCCUR OFTEN ENOUGH OR FOR LONG ENOUGH PERIODS TO CATCH ON DIAGNOSTICS. IF GEARS ENGAGED WHEN IN HIGH IDLE IT SQUEALS RUBBER EVEN WITH BRAKES APPLIED. *NM
